He'll do his big Christmas show here just like every year. I never get to go though.

Janick Gers is a good songwriter but yes, he's very silly live.

I think he's broadly a waste of space live. Anyone who can spend that long in an Iron Maiden show not actually playing his guitar doesn't need to be there.

The only reason i've heard anyone give as to why he's still in the band is because he's friends with Bruce and that's how he got the job originally. The band, except for when Bruce goofs around with him a bit, barely interact with Jannick during the show. I think Steve knows deep down they don't need him but after being with them for 22 years now he doesn't have the heart to let him go.

The reason Alice is dropping off the tour is because he has shows booked in Europe starting at the end of the month and going into august. Otherwise, i'm sure he would've been on it for the duration of the tour. I can't imagine the horror of having to wait through Coheed & Cambria, that singer's voice is so annoying. On the plus side Maiden will be a billion times better then they already are after that.

Where were you sitting? From the pit everything sounded great but from that close we were probably hearing the sound more from the stage amps than the ones the venue has. I've read that Maiden sometimes doesn't do soundchecks which I think is a big mistake. Especially since this tour they have a new person at the soundboard for the first time since 1979. I've read a number of reviews that complain of sound issues. Doing a regular soundcheck and allowing the new soundboard person to figure out the right mix for each venue would help greatly with that.

I agree on pretty much eveything that's been said about Janick in this thread. I never waste anytime watching him in concert. And if by mistake I do, I'm so embarrassed for him that I quickly go back on one of the boys. What the fuck is he doing up there ?

Cheers !

I ALWAYS stand/sit Dave/Adrian's side of the stage and pay no attention to Janick at all.

Glad to see more people who feel the same about Jannick as I do. Nobody ever mentions him in their reviews so I thought I was missing something as to what he brings to the band. But if nobody pays attention to him then it makes sense why he's never talked about. If Powermaiden can't even find a reason as to what Jannick is doing on stage then is obvious he doesn't need to be there.

I like Janick. If you'd go to his side, it's pretty clear he is actually playing. On some of the older songs it does seem that he's not in certain parts but maybe that's because those songs don't really need 3 guitars? I will say he puts more into "his" stuff, meaning No Prayer stuff and on. People wonder why he's still in the band? Look at the writing credits on the recent albums. He wrote the best 2 songs on the last 2 records (The Talisman and The Legacy) and the 2nd best song on Dance of Death (the title track). He's a good songwriter, and a good entertainer and I think he works well with the rest of the band.

I am work so I can't look at the albums, but what did Janick ever write that is that significant?
I don't like them with 3 guitarists either, but it's not his fault Adrian quit for awhile and then decided to come back. I guess they would feel bad if they let him go, and there's enough money to go around. I don't like the way he prances around on stage, that's for sure.
