Sevendust -- Chesaning, MI -- July 14th, 2012

This was the Chesaning Showboat RockFest. I'd never been before. It's an all-day outdoor show along the riverfront.

Charm City Devils was the 1st band I saw. Meh.

Beyond Threshold was next. They brought the heavy. I'd see them again.

12 Stones put on one of the most fun sets of the day. I can't wait to see them again.

12 Stones setlist:
Bulletproof
Adrenaline
Anthem for the Underdog
Infected
Soulfire
Broken

I went to the main stage and watched a few songs by Art of Dying. To quote Homer Simpson, "Boring!"

Anew Revolution was next. They're always fun to see live.

Taproot played next on the main stage, but unfortunately their set was cut short b/c the day was running behind schedule. The crowd was none too happy about that. Actually, the crowd was pissed, myself included. Why should Taproot get penalized because the bands that played before them took too long? Anyway, they made the best of the time they had & were one of the best bands of the day, IMO. Taproot rocked the house! Steve asked the crowd to make some noise for Nonpoint. He said, "We love those guys, literally." Robb from Nonpoint was standing behind the drum kit singing & air-drumming to "Poem." That was cool.

Taproot setlist:
Again & Again
Fractured
The Everlasting
Poem

Nonpoint was next. I've seen them live at least 20x, and they're always solid.

Nonpoint setlist:
Victim
I Said It (new song)
Miracle
Left For You (new song)
What a Day
Bullet With a Name

next up was a band called Janus. I'd heard of them but never heard their music. They were pretty good. For fans of 10 Years & Chevelle.

I watched Drowning Pooll b/c, well, there was nothing else to do. I hadn't seen them since right before Dave Williams died. They're not the worst band in the world, but I just don't understand why they became so popular when there are so many other bands from the same genre that came out around the same time as they did that are way better than they are, like, for example, Taproot, Nonpoint, Sevendust, and pretty much any band they've toured with. Their set was OK. I still have the CD sampler of "Bodies" from 2001. Remember when they used to hand those out at shows?

Next up was a band I'd never heard ove called Eye Empire. They were pretty good.

It took over 80 min for them to set up for Fuel. That was seriously irritating. I'm not sue if that was Fuel's or the venue's fault, but consequently Fuel only got a 25 min set. Oh well. They were OK.

Sevendust headlined, and they finally took the stage at 11:45. They're my favorite band, and a few months ago they announced that their next album will be their last. So, I'd better see them as many times as possible now. They were fantastic! They absolutely killed it, which more than made up for the Fuel debacle. They may have needed to cut a few songs b/c of time, but they were great anyway.

Sevendust setlist:
Inside
Denial
Bitch
Black
Driven
Splinter
Praise
Angel's Son
Forever
Pieces
The End is Coming
--encore--
Face To Face

Pretty solid Sevendust setlist. I wish they played Enemy live more often, I would love to hear that live.

Actially, they usually play "Enemy." This was the 1st time I've seem them in probably 5 years where they didn't play it. It would've been cool to see that song, though. It's a great live jam. Maybe they were planning on playing it and had to cut it b/c the show was running so late. I guess we'll never know.
