Being a Devin Townsend fanboy I can't help but love it but I can definitely see why someone who is just a moderate DT fan or not a fan at all wouldn't be impressed with this album. It's definitely not one of his strongest albums. He's said numerous times that this is just an in between record because he had to get all this poppy stuff out of his system so he could write heavier stuff for Ziltoid 2. I'm sure all Devy fans are going to be satisfied with this album but I wouldn't be surprised if it gets negative reviews.

I've seen them about five times now. They always slay. They're even better live than you think they're going to be.

On the one hand, if you like that song, you'll probably get to hear a lot of songs like it, because they really tend to favor their last two albums these days. On the other hand, I don't know that they've played that particular one much. I don't think I've ever heard them do it, anyway.

Pelican tours a ton, and they should have a new album coming soon, so don't sweat it. You'll get your chance.

I don't know why your quote blew the album picture up so big, but I listed a few links in that review to various EOY lists that had it ranked really high. And those were just a few, from reputable sites.

After researching it a bit, you and I have it ranked in about the same place on our respective lists, so yeah. I think we're actually more or less in agreement, except that I never really thought much about whether it was over-rated or not.
