Getting a new Mac

I'm probably going to be getting a new Mac within the next few months. A home computer, not a laptop. I guess they're still called iMac's?

Anyway, my current computer is an iMac but it's fucking old (I got it in early 2009). It's never been upgraded since Macs never get upgraded. I'm currently running Mac OS X 10.5.8, I think i stopped getting updates then because it couldn't handle new software. I've currently got iTunes 10.6.3 because again, my Mac couldn't handle anything beyond that.

So my question is how can I get all my MP3's from this Mac on to my new one? Is there an online storage website I can use? Is my Mac so damn old that I wouldn't even be able to use those sites? Is there even a way I can hook a cable up between my two Macs to transfer all the data the old fashioned way?

serious answer:

depending on how big the files are, I'd say a flash drive is the easiest way to go. at Best Buy right now you can get a 64 GB flash drive for 22 american dolleridoos. Unless you have like 6 terabytes of music, that should be the easiest and most effective way to transfer files.

As of today I have 68.8 GB of music. What exactly is a flash drive? My computer is one of those all-in-one types. No tower, just a monitor.

I'm not against spending thirty or forty dollars to save myself weeks of time re-uploading everything.

It's a thing you plug into USB. Re-writable. Stores stuff. In recent times they've become cheap as fuck.

I have two of those metal $25 Kingston ones, and several SanDisk ones. All good.

I've never heard of PNY, but they look to be the cheapest.

External hard drives are really cheap now too; might not be a bad idea to spend a little more money because they're a good thing to have for backup anyways. A quick look at Amazon says you can get 1TB for like $60.

Agreed. I bought a 1TB portable one recently. It's been a life-saver for cleaning out two computers I wanted to get rid of. So much quicker than trying to transfer everything via my router.

Are they universal and does having such an archaic operating system matter?
