Taproot -- Flint, MI -- April 22nd, 2012

The 1st band I saw was a local band called Avenue Sky. They were alright.

Next up was Taproot. They were originally going to play this show a few weeks ago on the release date for their new CD, but that show had to be re-scheduled due to a family emergency. This show was well worth the wait, though. They opened the show by playing their entire new record THE EPISODES. I hadn't heard any of the songs prior to last night. I bought the new CD at the show, but I still haven't listened to the whole thing yet. Live, at least, my favorite songs were "A Kiss From the Sky," "The Everlasting," "We Don't Belong Here," and "Lost Boy." After playing THEY EPISODES they ended their set w/ a handful of older songs. I particularly enjoyed hearing "I" and "Smile." Here's their setlist:

Good Morning
No Surrender
Lost Boy
Memorial Park
The Everlasting
Around the Bend
A Kiss From The Sky
Strange & Fascinating
A Golden Grey
We Don't Belong Here
Path Less Taken

I've seen Taproot at least a dozen times now, and this set was definitely in the top 3 behind seeing them on an Ozzfest 2001 headlining off-date w/ Nonpoint & Pressure 4-5 and also their tour in the fall of 2002 w/ Dredg right before WELCOME was released. This was a cool way to change up their usual set by playing their whole new CD. I look forward to (hopefully) seeing Taproot another dozen plus times.
