Mitochondrion -- Toronto, Ontario -- April 3rd, 2015

This show was at the Hard Luck Bar, which is becoming one of my favorite venues in Toronto. It's small, but you never feel cramped, and the sound is overall pretty good for a tiny bar. It's also next door to a Tim Hortons, I'm the kind of person that needs a caffeine boost before and after a show, so that alone it gets bonus points for me.

Paroxsihzem opened the show, and this was their first gig. If I could describe their sound, it would be a Death/Black hybrid with a muddy production, which reminds me of Incantation in some ways. Their 30 minute set was one continuous onslaught of filthy screams and sounds that came straight from hell. I really hope they keep on playing live, because they have potential to become a force to be reckoned with. Check out their self titled debut if you can! Their set (from what I can remember) was:
Vanya
Nausea
Tormented Attrition
Ypsilanti's Christs
Aokigahara

Adversarial were next. This was my third time seeing them, and they never disappoint. They were also a Death/Black hybrid, which people have nicknamed War Metal, and that tag suits them perfectly. The chaos of their sound, combined with the machine gun drumming makes you feel like you are on the battlefield, with bullets flying all around you. Their 40 minute set made you feel like you were getting run over by a tank, and left mangled on the ground, it was glorious They played (may be out of order):
Feral Light Rising
Warwolf
Cursed Blades Cast upon the Slavescum of Christ
VIM
Thralls
Scourge of a World Ablaze
All Idols Fall Before the Hammer
Impending Eternal Blackness
In Black Vaults of a Death God

Mitochondrion came on after, and their entire 65 minute set made you feel like you got transported to another dimension. Their music sounds like it was created by aliens, because no human could come up with these sounds. Watching Nick, Shawn and Sebastian trade off vocals with each other was also awesome to see. Each had their own sound and they blended together perfectly. I couldn't really headbang to their music, because it was so crazy and left me in awe the whole time. These guys are fucking monsters, and they deserve all the credit they get. Their set (may also be a little out of order) was:
Plague Evockation
Lex Ego Exitium
Tetravirulence
Into the Pit of Babel
Insummation
Parasignosis
Trials
137 (Death's Hendecaratia)

All in all, it was an excellent night, and for $15 it doesn't get much better. Go see these bands if they are ever in your area

A guy named Dax runs a promotion called Briefcase. He books Death/Black, Crust and Hardcore shows.

Mitochondrion is so good live. Sounds like a great show.

Did they happen to mention if they have new musics in the works?

They made no mention of it, though in an interview fairly recently one of the band members said it's coming along slowly but surely.
