August Burns Red -- Detroit, MI -- February 23rd, 2012

It was difficult skipping KoRn (who also played in Detroit that night), but having to choose b/w 2 good shows is a good problem to have, so I can't complain. I got there 40 mins after doors opened, and there was still a line wrapped around the building. The place was PACKED. I caught the last 3 or 4 songs from the local opener Nancy Drew. They were nothing special... lots of growling, breakdowns, and catch phrases we've all heard 1,000x to try to pump up the crowd, yet they lacked musical ability. I, The Breather and Texas In July were the next 2 openers, and I enjoyed them both a lot. Silverstein was next. I've seen them 4 or 5 times now. Each time I see them, though, it's because I want to see a band that they're touring with (Poison the Well, Walls of Jericho, From Autumn to Ashes, Hopesfall). They're very hit or miss to me. Some of their songs are cool, but a lot of them have a whiney Hawthorn Heights vibe to them. They're pretty good live, though.

August Burns Red hit the stage around 10pm. This was my 1st time seeing them since their tour w/ MyChildren MyBride in support of CONSTELLATIONS. I had no idea they were as popular as they are. The show was sold out (900+), and the crowd had great energy. They played a good mix of songs from their catalog. "Internal Cannon" was really fun live. The highlight, without question, was "Your Little Suburbia is in Ruins." That song is so amazing, and the pit was INSANE for that song! "Meridian" was a cool surprise. For that song they brought out their guitar tech to play bass. All in all this was a fun show. Setlist (NOTE: Missing a song in the middle. I also left early b/c I had to work the next day, so I may be missing a few songs at the end):

Internal Cannon
Cutting the Ties
Marianas Trench
Your Little Suburbia Is In Ruins
The Truth of a Liar
White Washed
Poor Millionaire
Back Burner
11/20 MH
12/5 Texas In July
12/12 Heartsick
12/19 np
4/5 Maiden
4/8 & 9 UO

The missing song had to be Composure. I can't see them leaving that out of the set.
Ride the wings of death.
