Bloodofthekings' Top 10 Favorite Vocalist!
Drafted this list out of boredom a little while ago and thought I'd make it into a full thing with blurbs and what not. I'll be listing my top 10 FAVORITE vocalist. I emphasize favorite because this list is just about the voices I personally enjoy the most and a good share of the people on this list aren't even good singers. Dio and Bruce Dickinson will not be on this list *applies flameshield*.

10. Tom Araya
![]() Bands: Slayer (1982-present) You all should already know how great Tom Araya is. In my opinion Tom is the greatest thrash vocalist of all time. He's the guy the singers of all up and coming thrash bands aspire to be. His sinister delivery and high pitched screams are a big part of what made Slayer stand out above the rest. In the 90's his vocal style became more angry and pissed off sounding and he was damn good at that too. At age 50 his voice isn't quite what is was on Reign in Blood (his vocal peak IMO) but he's still brings it live and on record. ![]() Example: Angel of Death (hands down the greatest scream of all time)

Yeah, Tom's vocals are the only thing I like about Slayer. But I don't know if I'd put any thrash vocalist in my Top 10 metal vocalists. Hell, even 20. But that's probably because I base things like top vocalists, guitarists, bassists, etc purely on techincal ability.

9. Stza (Scott Sturgeon)
Bands: Choking Victim (1992-1999), Leftover Crack (2000-present), Star Fucking Hipsters (2005-present) Stza is a bad ass motherfucker. All of his bands play a unique style that is a mix of hardcore punk, ska, and occasionally metal. He can sing both ska and hardcore and trades off the two styles very nicely. Vocally my favorite band of his has gotta be SFH but that is largely due to the female vocals of Nico de Gaillo. If you haven't checked out any of this guy's bands I highly recommend you do so. Example: Choking Victim - 500 Channels

Tom is one of my favorites, as well. He sounds amazing since his surgery.

8. Les Claypool
Bands: Primus (1984-present), Colonel Les Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade (2000-2004), Oysterhead (2000-2001), Colonel Claypool’s Bucket of Bernie Brains (2002-2004) More than anyone else I have on this list I cant imagine many others feeling the same way. You cant really call Les Claypool a singer. Most of his vocals consist of quirky narration and maybe he'll sing for the chorus. The only song I can recall where he sings the whole way through is John the Fisherman. For some odd reason I really enjoy his style. I love the little random bits he'll throw in here and there (the "dog will hunt" part in Jerry was a Race Car Driver gets me every time). I also love his really zany vocals he does on songs like Sgt. Baker and Is It Luck? Not technically a good singer but he's definitely unique. Example: Primus - Sgt. Baker

![]() and i Agree 100% with you bloodofkings. Tom is a big BIG part of why I love Slayer so much. What made slayer stand out so much from other bands was Tom Arayas aggression and power and the tone that he brought to the table. Tom just stands out from every other vocalist in metal but that is just my opinion and my opinion only. Songs like "Disciple", "Live Undead", "Jesus Saves" "Postmortem" and "Dittohead" are a couple that always come to mind.
