Powerwolf -- Moscow, Russia -- February 4th, 2012
Can't remember everything, but that's about what they played. I'll update the post if I find something solid online.
Agnus Dei Sanctified with Dynamite Prayer in the Dark Raise Your Fist, Evangelist We Drink Your Blood Catholic in the Morning... Satanist at Night All We Need Is Blood Dead Boys Don't Cry In Blood We Trust Werewolves of Armenia Resurrection by Erection Saturday Satan Lupus Dei We Take It From the Living Moscow After Dark Kiss of the Cobra King We Drink Your Blood Great show. Showed up half an hour before doors (at least I thought I had) and the first three rows were already filled up, along with at least 20 other people roaming around the venue. Didn't even know that many people knew about them Took a place in the fourth row with my super-tall friend, and off the bat some chick started complaining about her view being obstructed.About a million chants of "POWERWOLF!" later (an hour to be precise) the band came out to a hail of applause. Opening up with Sanctified With Dynamite, Prayer in the Dark, and Raise Your Fist, Evangelist they started off the show with a bang. The energy in the room was so strong you could pretty much reach out and feel it. The band completely killed We Drink Your Blood, All We Need Is Blood, and Resurrection By Erection, this was probably one of the best quality performances I've ever seen. The singer was really funny, and make a lot of jokes in broken English throughout the show, and boy, the audience was eating it up. When he said that the reception they get in Russia is even stronger than the kind they get back home in Germany, I believed him. I caught a drumstick and gave it to my friend, and we both got posters signed by the entire band afterwards. The show kind of brought to me a realization; at extreme metal shows (grindcore, hardcore, death metal, with the exception of black metal) it's moreso about how brutal the pits are, how insane the crowd is, but rarely about how good the band is, or what kind of a connection they have with the audience. Bands like Powerwolf, however, play a style of metal that isn't necessarily the kind that you can apply that kind of criteria to, so they're left with perfecting how well they can play their material- with the massive crowd of people who came, and sang along to every lyric from every song, and for one evening lived and breathed Powerwolf, it's obvious that they're one of the dozen that can exceptionally well pull it off. /rant The only user on here who I know knows about Powerwolf is Mike (Epidemic_Reign), but if you're interested in checking them out, listen to the three songs I mentioned in the second paragraph.

That's a damned fine set. I would love to see these guys live one day.
In response to your last paragraph though, I would say the band's connection with the audience and how well they perform live is what I'm mostly interested in regardless of what subgenre of metal or type of music in general it is. I'm more of a "bang-your-head-and-sing-along" guy than a "get-in-the-pit-and-tear-shit-up" type of guy. But that's just me ![]() Anyway, good review man. Thanks for posting

I think you're right. It's a shame, we get some European bands on a regular basis and others not at all... goddamned oceans.

The only Powerwolf song I know is We Drink Your Blood and I dig that song. I never got around to checking out more of their stuff.
