Honestly now that the Rammstein comments are out I see one of two scenarios:
1) they don't do it and no matter what the lineup is people bitch 2) they do play and as a result significantly lesser known bands play(ala Sumerian Stage) in order to afford Rammstein, and people bitch yet again

Rammstein plays the fest goes into debt and it turns into 3 bands on mainstage and 3 bands in the lot. All of which are Sumerian owned.

Rammstein's been touring the US solid in bunches for the last couple of years now. Their last leg had like 20 dates or something didn't it? I don't see the benefit to them playing 1 hour on Mayhem in cities which they've already played recently. It's not like they have a new album out or anything. Is their greatest hits album enough to ride on for promotion? A few of those cities they've done more than 1 show (they did 3 shows in Montreal since December 2010, all of which I believe were sold out), but I don't know if there'd be that type of demand in every city. There's just too many reasons for them not to do it.

They should be. They're playing Wacken.
inb4 someone reminds me that Trivium skipped two dates in 2011 to play Wacken. They weren't the headliners for the tour therefore they could afford to drop off a few dates.

I believe (just a guess) that the top choices for the Mayhem Fest organizers pick as main headliner will be SoaD, Alice In Chains, Korn then Rob Zombie. The seconday headliners would likely be Deftones, 5FDP, LoG, KsE. The one thing I gathered from the interview with Reese is that they are looking for bands with some commercial appeal that yet to play the fest.

Alice In Chains would be cool. If it was Uproar tour. I don't see them fitting in with the Mayhem crowd and bands.

I wouldn't be suprised to see Mayhem Fest try to retour Blackdismondskye. They already did Tattoo the Earth & Manson/Slayer as far as having those tours headliners tour together again under Mayhem Fest.
