Ahhhh Lykathea Aflame. That is one of my favorite technical death metal albums. It's just impossible to wrap your mind around it... there's so much going on in every song. Nothing else quite like it.

Hour of Penance - The Vile Conception ![]() Genre: Technical/Brutal Death Metal I'm not gonna waste my time writing an objective kind of review for this one. I'll leave it at this: This album is brutal, heavy, and holy hell it's fucking FAST. Very obvious reasons why I love this one and why you should too. Highlights: Misconception Hideously Conceived Slavery In a Deaf Decay

Exhumed - Gore Metal ![]() Genre: Death Metal/Grindcore An excellent combination of the two genres listed above. Exhumed create their own sound (well, basically Carcass worship but more extreme) to create what they call "Gore Metal". Filled with brutal yet melodic riffs, intense vocals and fast drums, Gore Metal is a hell of a rager. The vocals are probably the best part of this album, with Matt Harvey doing the higher vocals and Ross Sewage doing the lower growl vocals. So again, basically anything you'd find in earlier Carcass. These guys know how to worship them the right way. The production is pretty bad but it does fit in with the music. Either way, this album is worth the listen. Highlights: Open the Abscess Limb From Limb Casketkrusher - My favorite Exhumed song! Also, they re-recorded "Necromaniac" (the first song on this album) on their latest release, All Guts, No Glory. It sounds A LOT better on there, so I'll post that here as well. Necromaniac 2011

Skinless - Trample the Weak, Hurdle the Dead ![]() Genre: Brutal Death Metal I'm not gonna lie, this album was a complete surprise, especially with the 3 albums Skinless put out before this one. Their first 2 were just straight up brutal death metal, focusing on gore and whatnot. Then they put out From Sacrifice to Survival, which seemed like a step in a more melodic direction, which really isn't Skinless at all. And then they put out this one. GOD DAMN. What a change, and for the better. This album is non stop chaos from beginning to end. The sound samples are back, and you can already tell from the first one (I believe it's from Conquest of the Planet of the Apes) that the whole album is about war. Additionally, Skinless got their brutality back and it's much more brutal than ever. Part of the reasoning of this could be from the new vocalist that they got on this album. If you saw Origin live over this previous summer, I'm sure you know who Jason Keyser is. He's one hell of a vocalist and definitely helps make this album as intense as it is. Fans of brutal death metal, maybe even slam, check this album out immediately! Highlights: Overlord Trample the Weak, Hurdle the Dead Execution of Reason

Deicide - Deicide ![]() Genre: Death Metal Old school Florida death metal. This album is one of the classics that fit within that genre. Very dark and evil, as well as heavy and fast. The Satanic and Anti-Christian lyrics give it a powerful vibe as well, especially since this is when Deicide were actually creative with their lyrics and song titles. This is a must listen classic for any fans of death metal. Highlights: Sacrificial Suicide Dead By Dawn Day of Darkness
