Dream Machine Head setlist
Imperium
Old A Thousand Lies Clenching the Fists of Dissent (first four minutes) Seasons Wither Block Beautiful Mourning Bulldozer The Blood, the Sweat, the Tears Slanderous Halo Davidian The problem with Machine Head (it's a good problem) is that a lot of their songs are epic and long that you can put so many of them as openers, but I truly think Imperium would be the perfect opener. Other ideas for openers, you can just switch them in my setlist, would be Clenching, Halo, Davidian.

When I saw them on Mayhem last year they opened with Clenching and Imperium and they couldn't do much better than that to open the show. I was right up in front and the crowd was nuts for the whole show but these two songs got it going so fuckin good  With this set being 18 songs it's not out of the relm of possibility that if they were ever to do a headling tour for the Blackening in North America that something similar to this set couldn't happen. Though they're doing a full on headlining tour for the album here it's been to long now.

I saw them at Mayhem tour last year and when they opened for Metallica earlier this year, and both times they opened with Clenching. So maybe that's why I wanted a different opener. An 18 song set for Machine Head is pretty long considering a lot of the songs you picked are like 7 minutes or more. I do love the set though, if they ever had that much time, that would be great. I don't think they are gonna have a headlining tour because I think theyre making a new album soon, or at least starting to write one. It's a shame they never had a headline tour for The Blackening. In my opinion that is one of the greatest metal albums of all time, and Machine Head is one of the greatest metal bands of all time. They are so underappreciated. I wish Supercharger and The Burning Red were better because those two albums almost made them fold as a band (literally watch the documentary on the live DVD, awesome documentary). They are one of James Hetfield's favorite bands and even he thinks The Blackening is one of the best albums in awhile. It really pisses me off that Mastodon and Dragonforce had spots on the main stage at Mayhem 08 and Machine Head didn't. I mean come on really????

The reason Machine Head played the second stage is because the promoters knew the crowd reaction would be insane for them so putting them in an open area on the second stage as opposed to reserved seats area in the main stage worked out better for them. At my show three quaters of the people missed Mastodon and Dragonforce because they were all over at the second and third stages while they were playing. It was packed a long way back when Machine Head was playing and since I was right up in front it took me awhile to get to the mainstage once they were done playing.

Ya it was pretty crazy when I saw them at Mayhem. I had front row for Airbourne and Five Finger Death Punch, but my ribs got pretty much broken from being pushed up against the rails during Five Finger (which was the most intense mosh pit i've been in). So I had to see Machine Head from like 20 rows deep.

Aesthetics of Hate Old Seasons Wither Spine Elegy Now I Lay Thee Down Down to None Halo Block -- Imperium Davidian Kind of long but not TOO long.
