Chronicle reminded me of a present day/non-futuristic Akira.

Definitely shadings of it, though it lacks the punch of Akira.

Well, maybe from the sense that there's a whole thing about being seduced by a dark power, yes. I could say more but I don't want to ruin the plot.

The way it was filmed, though, is what interested me - and that was nothing like RotS. Granted, similar movies have been made before, but the combination of the way it was filmed and the story which was told - coupled with the fact that the story-telling style made it seem somewhat plausible that something like this could actually be happening somewhere (although obviously it isn't), was what drew me in.

Like I said before, it was no blockbuster, but I liked it well enough. I'd give it a 3 or 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Saw Ghost Rider and Safe House this weekend. Ghost Rider was pretty fucking awful. It makes the first one look like a landmark superhero film. Safe House, on the other hand, was great. Very intense and well-acted action thriller.

Oh shit. Not that I wasn't gonna see it anyway but I didn't think it would be that bad.

I play poker with some brotha's and they all hated Safe House. I was speechless and that's a true feat to accomplish. I thought that movie either must be really, really boring or too cerebral for those guys.

Either way it became destined for redbox after hearing that...
