Company of Thieves - Running From a Gamble

If all female-fronted alt. rock bands emulated this band instead of shittier bands (*coughFlorencecough*) then I'd listen to a lot more radio. Super rocking in parts, it also has one of my favorite songs of the year.

Disma - Towards the Megalith

It features members of Incantation and Funebrarum...of course it's going to be heavy as balls! I wish the songs were a bit more varied, but man this will stomp on your nuts over and over.

Root - Heritage of Satan

The dark metal masters take their brand of satanic metal and put a goth/black'n'roll spin on the genre. It's really infectious.

Vader - Welcome To The Morbid Reich

I think Vader is one of the best death metal bands of all time, and Welcome to The Morbid Reich is a welcome addition to their discography for the '10s. Unbelievably breakneck speed at times.

blink-182 - Neighborhoods

Not quite the comeback album of the year, nor is it the pop-punk album of the year, but I think it's respectable. It's basically the TOM DELONGE SHOW!!!! oh and also two guys named Mark and Travis. Tom needs to take less Angels and Airwaves out of blink-182.

Tyler, The Creator - Goblin

Not sure if there was a group that got more press than Odd Future this year, and not sure there was a frontman that came under more scrutiny and praise than Tyler. The album kinda showcases that he really isn't that great of a rapper, but he does have a knack for producing great songs and putting all of his heart into what he raps about, which sometimes trumps talent.

Loss - Despond

This year marked my first foray into the genre of Funeral Doom, and Loss did a pretty good job at it. The overall feeling of the album reminds me a lot of the Australian band Despondancy, which is a really good thing! Only listen to if you're depressed.

YOB - Atma

Wish I would've started listening to these guys earlier. Definitely not what I expected, but a combination of everything good about bands like High on Fire and Black Cobra. Heaviness personified!

That Loss album is pretty fucking awesome. 33 is about where I'd put it too.

So I think Goblin, Yonkers, Transylvania, Sandwitches, and Golden would be the best rap EP ever but there's too much fat on this LP for it to really work, BUT I think the worst defense of Tyler is that he "puts all of his heart into what he raps about," considering he raps about rape and murder. I have to hope he's doing the OPPOSITE of putting his heart into it.
