Company of Thieves - Running From a Gamble ![]() If all female-fronted alt. rock bands emulated this band instead of shittier bands (*coughFlorencecough*) then I'd listen to a lot more radio. Super rocking in parts, it also has one of my favorite songs of the year. Highlight: Death of Communication

Disma - Towards the Megalith ![]() It features members of Incantation and Funebrarum...of course it's going to be heavy as balls! I wish the songs were a bit more varied, but man this will stomp on your nuts over and over. ![]() Highlight: Lost In The Burial Fog

Root - Heritage of Satan ![]() The dark metal masters take their brand of satanic metal and put a goth/black'n'roll spin on the genre. It's really infectious. Highlight: In Nomine Sathanas

Vader - Welcome To The Morbid Reich ![]() I think Vader is one of the best death metal bands of all time, and Welcome to The Morbid Reich is a welcome addition to their discography for the '10s. Unbelievably breakneck speed at times. Highlight: Decapitated Saints

blink-182 - Neighborhoods ![]() Not quite the comeback album of the year, nor is it the pop-punk album of the year, but I think it's respectable. It's basically the TOM DELONGE SHOW!!!! oh and also two guys named Mark and Travis. Tom needs to take less Angels and Airwaves out of blink-182. Highlight: After Midnight

Tyler, The Creator - Goblin ![]() Not sure if there was a group that got more press than Odd Future this year, and not sure there was a frontman that came under more scrutiny and praise than Tyler. The album kinda showcases that he really isn't that great of a rapper, but he does have a knack for producing great songs and putting all of his heart into what he raps about, which sometimes trumps talent. Highlight: Tron Cat

Loss - Despond ![]() This year marked my first foray into the genre of Funeral Doom, and Loss did a pretty good job at it. The overall feeling of the album reminds me a lot of the Australian band Despondancy, which is a really good thing! Only listen to if you're depressed. Open Veins to a Curtain Closed

YOB - Atma ![]() Wish I would've started listening to these guys earlier. Definitely not what I expected, but a combination of everything good about bands like High on Fire and Black Cobra. Heaviness personified! Highlight: Atma

That Loss album is pretty fucking awesome. 33 is about where I'd put it too.
