Bloodofthekings' "whatever, everybody else is doing it" 2011 thread
I guess I'll give this a go. In this thread I will count down my top 25 favorite albums of 2011. I plan to have this list completed within a week and I will not slack off or give up on the list like some people on this site tend to do. I'll start with a list of albums that could have made it on to my list but won't because I didn't listen to them enough.

25. The Devin Townsend Project - Ghost
![]() Normally I would never buy an album like this but since Devin Townsend's name is on it of course I had to. When Devy said Ghost is gonna be a soft and pretty record I didn't think it would be this soft. I guess I was maybe a little underwhelmed when I first listened to it but I didn't just throw it away and never listen to it again. It grew on me a bit and i'm surprised how much I was able to enjoy this album. This is nice, relaxing music and I enjoy it in that sense but I don't think Devy should ever play these songs live unless it's a special show like the ones he did in the UK. Recommended tracks: Fly Feather Ghost

24. Arch Enemy - Khaos Legions
![]() You always kinda know what to expect from Arch Enemy. This album doesn't really bring anything new to the table but it continues Arch Enemy's winning streak of writing quality melo-death. Amott continues to write catchy and memorable riffs and Gossow continues to prove why she's the best female vocalist in metal. So yeah, it's a new Arch Enemy album, it's solid, don't know what else to say. Recommended tracks: No Gods, No Masters Yesterday is Dead and Gone Under Black Flags We March

Some would argue that this is not a good thing.

![]() Still, this one was better than Rise of the Tyrant. I guess that's a step in the right direction.

I actually rank Khaos Legions really high. It was a lot better than I expected. It might be the same AE thing they always do, but its a LOT better than any other album since Wages. As far as I'm concerned they more than make up for their lack of inspiration for how fucking good they are at that style on that album.

Love Ghost. Khaos Legions did nothing for me. then again Arch Enemy never really did.

23. Weedeater - Jason... The Dragon
![]() I recommend you find someone to spot you when you listen to this cause this album is heavy as fuck. Weedeater is obviously a stoner metal band I can imagine marijuana would enhance the listening experience. I enjoy stoner/sludge a good deal and I don't smoke at all. The best part of Weedeater's music is Dixie Dave's thick, muddy bass lines. The way these songs vibrate in your ears when you listen with headphones is amazing . But why is this only at 23? Well the real down side to this album is that it's short and 4 of the songs on here are just filler. So when you strip away all the pointless filler songs the album is under 25 minutes long. There's 3 interludes and the last track is a little more then an outro but I doubt your gonna wanna keep the album on whenever it comes up. The 6 legitimate songs on here are all great though and I definitely recommend it.Recommended tracks: Homecoming Mancoon Jason... The Dragon

22. Amon Amarth - Surtur Rising
![]() This album is considered by many to be a huge disappointment in the sense that it doesn't live up to the standards this band has set for themselves. Around the time it came out I guess I was thinking too much about what it could have been rather then just taking it for what it is. It's no With Oden On Our Side or Twilight of the Thunder God but this isn't a bad album by any means. AA are still delivering some of the best melo-death around and I'd love to hear some of these tracks like Loke's Treachery Part II and Wrath of the Norsemen included in future live sets. Recommended tracks: Töck's Taunt - Loke's Treachery Part II Destroyer of the Universe Wrath of the Norsemen
