Iced Earth -- Cologne, Germany -- December 7th, 2011

White wizard did not perform this night. Why i don't know. There were no shirts of them either. I arrived around 7:30 pm and fury UK started playing right away. I was a bit worried because they played so long that iced earth was going to play the short setlist. But after fury UK they prepared the stage for iced earth.
The setlist for iced earth:

1. Dystopia
2. Burning times
3. Angels Holocaust
4. Slave to the dark
5. V
6. Stand Alone
7. When the night falls
8. Damien
9. Dark City
10. The hunter
11. Anthem
12. Anthem (yes, they played it twice for a video)
13. Declaration day
14. Days of rage
15. Watching over me

16. Dante's inferno
17. Iced Earth

I have seen iced earth many times before but this was by far the best show I ever saw from them. The setlist was even better then during the horror show tour when they played 3 sets. Mat Barlow never crossed my mind when i was watching this show.
What a amazing crowd in cologne. I'm from the Netherlands but i will go see metal shows in Germany from now on.
John Schaffer was in a very good mood for a change and called Stu a doushebak for fucking up the video back in Jersey. That is why they played Anthem twice to have more footage for the upcoming video.
I hope they will play some festivals in the summer of 2012 in Europe!!!!

Watching Over Me seems like an odd song to end the main set with. Did it work ok in that spot?

That's pretty much been the alternate main set closer for Tragedy And Triumph all tour. I got Tragedy And Triumph at my show though, so can't comment on the effectiveness of Watching Over Me.

I think I'd rather have Tragedy and Triumph in general. Not that Watching Over Me isn't a great song, but I'd take Stu singing Stu's song over Stu singing Matt's ballad.

watching over me was not a great end. Damien did worst. The hunter, angels holocaust, when the night falls, burning times, dantes inferno, stand alone, V, slave to the dark & anthem were all highlights.
I don't like the song iced earth at all closing the set.

On the White Wizzard thing. They had to drop off the tour because they ran out of money. Their entire trek with Iced Earth was self funded so when the funds ran dry they had to drop.

Played Anthem twice? Was the crowd as energetic the second time thru? It seems like a horrible idea, but I understand the need for footage

Concerts in germany are always energetic crowd wise. I don't think IE should try this in the Netherlands were i live. I live very close to the german en belgium border and for me its closer to go to cologne or brussels then to amsterdam. And as a bonus the crowds are awesome in Germany and Belgium (France also but i don't speak French).
I thought the arm in the crowd was only for making foto's.
