Yes it was. They toured with their current singer Nick Tart. Monday was with original singer Sean Harris, who hasn't been in the band properly for over 15 years, apart from the aborted '02-'04 reunion.

I'm really impressed that Metallica are doing this kind of thing. Sure, bringing Lou Reed out and playing those horrible songs sucks, but you had to expect it, at least for one night, and probably at least one more. Good excuse for a long bathroom/beer/smoke/whatever break. Also, nothing wrong with Kid Rock joining for Turn the Page, the guy actually has a great voice for that type of music.

It would've been much cooler to have got Seger to sing the song with them. Playing the Lou Reed stuff is just an awful descison, but then they go and do awesome stuff like Bush singing on Horsemen and the Mercyful Fate appearence, so at least they know how to make things up to those who were there. Of course if you're not a fan of any of their special guests you're probably didn't enjoy the show as much as you would like to.

I think you're right though, they're clearly trying to open each one with an instrumental. Probably means they'll open with Orion next, and Suicide & Redemption on the last night.
