Another excellent post. Agalloch is definitely one of the best bands I've seen live.

Probably should've waited til tomorrow to start this list... Inquisition should be WAY higher after seeing them again tonight.

Symphony X

Date seen: May 1st, 2011

Now here's a band that some would disagree with, especially being so high on this list for a number of reasons. The first being their set on this tour. A lot of it was from Paradise Lost, but I really do love that album, although I could do without Serpent's Kiss in the set. Another reason was their sound wasn't as good as it should've been. Being at the Bottom Lounge, they're bound to fuck something up, and of course it had to be Michael Romeo's guitar. It definitely wasn't loud enough, but for some reason I could hear it fine. Aside from that, their performance was just spot on. Not once did I hear any mess ups.

But the main reason why they are so high on here (aside from them being one of my favorite bands ever) was the encore... The fucking Odyssey. That is, hands down, my favorite song ever. When I first took a look at the set for the tour on here and saw that they were closing with that, ALL FUCKING 25 MINUTES OF IT, my jaw dropped and I thought I would cry. I managed to get second row for the entire show and to see that song played before me, live, was just remarkable. The last 5 minutes of the song could be summed up as I'm happy I got to see them with that set. Other highlights were Smoke and Mirrors, Of Sins and Shadows, as well as Dehumanized and The End of Innocence, the 2 "new" songs at the time. I'll never forget that performance. Seeing The Odyssey live has brought me one step closer to dying happy.

Trying to decide if I want to go see Symphony X & Iced Earth in February. Haven't seen either band in 10 years or so. Your glowing review is helping to swing the decision towards going!

Another excellent pick. Symphony X were great when I saw them. I know a lot of people will give me shit for this, but I mainly went to the show for Powerglove, though I liked Symphony X going in. They blew me away. Michael Romeo is one of the most talented guitarists I've seen all year. And Russel Allen has some pipes!
