Yeah, if you're going to do a list at least put some effort into it.

So basically, I'm just going to skip ahead to #20 because it's from that point on that the albums included get great. To kill some of the suspense for you all, I'm going to put it out there that Amon Amarth, DTP (both Ghost and Deconstruction), and Scale The Summit failed to make it. Also, no more track listings. Takes too long to format them correctly

The Black Dahlia Murder - Ritual
Metal Blade Records

As Ben said in his review, whether you're a trve metal fan or some scenefag, this has got to appeal to you. If the opening four tracks don't make you want to go kick a baby from adrenaline, check your pulse. I've been a long-time BDM fan, and thought Deflorate was a bit weak, but Ritual does deserve all the hype it gets. I've always been one to claim that Black Dahlia Murder are melodeath, and this has to confirm it. With more amazing guitarwork from Ryan Knight (ex-Arsis guitarist) and unrelenting vocals from Trevor Strnad, this should be in any death metal fan's end-of-year list.

A Shrine To Madness

Weedeater - Jason... The Dragon
Southern Lord Records

An album I haven't seen on anyone's lists yet here, Weedeater's new album is my favorite sludge album of the year. Featuring members of Buzzov-en, the band's third release outdoes the rest, with fucking awesome songs like Hammerhandle (my favorite), Turkey Warlock, and Mancoon, this is (unless Electric Wizard released an album this year without me knowing about it) what you'll be lighting up to while listening to. With riffs reminiscent of Acid King or Bongripper, this is definitely one of the best releases of early 2011. Kudos to Manks to recommending this to me back in April!

Hammerhandle
