Kurt Cobain, Johnny Ramone and Ron Asheton shouldn't be anywhere near the top 100 IMO. The way I see it, their music was ridiculously influential, but not their guitar playing at all.

Hell, Alex Lifeson being ranked 98 is a joke in and of itself. I do like that they included James Hetfield though. Save for maybe Glenn and KK from Priest, dude probably has the most influential right hand in all of metal.

You apparently didn't see the list they made in 2003. THAT was atrociously bad. It had Eddie Van Halen at 70 for fuck's sake. This one is at least an improvement. Actually really nice to see Alex Lifeson there. Maybe in 2017 they'll include Murray/Smith, Tipton/Downing, Frehley and Dave Mustaine

That's the difference right there. The 2003 one was the usual Rolling Stone retards doing the voting, this wasn't.

I don't mind the same old guys coming out top. They (mostly) deserve it. But yeah, people like Cobain, Paul Simon, John Lennon... they're not guitarists. They're singers who play a little guitar. There are so many great young guitarists who belong on there ahead of people like that.

Kurt Cobain was a self-admitted shit guitar player. Nirvana is one of my favorite bands of all time, but it's not because of Cobain's guitar skill. I agree this list does suck a bag of dicks.

I think the biggest problem with these lists is that people often put good song-writing over good guitar playing. Cobain, Ramone, Lennon, great song-writers, but they weren't technical or ground-breaking in any of their actual guitar playing, and for a list like this its the actual guitar playing thats getting credited, not the song-writing.

If Zappa isn't in the top 10 or higher, this is a shitty list.
