Mayhem -- Worcester, MA -- November 6th, 2011

Mayhem and Hate upstairs at the Palladium. How the fuck could you not go to this?

Get in as KoK is playing. It was okay. I've seen them do better.

Hate comes on. By this time the place is comfortable packed. I'm impressed by the transitions between bands. The upstairs shows move so much more efficiently. Last time I was here, for Katatonia, it seemed like forever between them and the nightmare set that was Opeth. But anyway...

Hate opens with Erebos and sets the place the fuck off. The pit was pretty solid. Good set, pretty short, but a great time was had by all.

Abigail Williams annoys the fuck out of me. I don't like their music but have somehow seen them 3 times in the past couple years. So for this set, we play the back and chill out/hang with people. At this point I notice a few things:
-There's not as much corpsepaint as I anticipated. And even the shit that I do see is weak as fuck. For instance there's a bro wearing corpsepaint and a Disturbed shirt. Can't tell if trolling or just fucked.
-I've spotted at least 10 babes at this show. What's up with that? More on this later.
-The dudes standing next to me with Euro accents look just like the two guys from Hate, without white paint on their faces.

Mayhem comes on. Atilla does the whole show with a human skull and a noose in his hands. Hellhammer is a fucking beast. They played a phenomenal set and the dude just beats drums to death for 15 songs. There's a little blonde guy that they call "necrobutcher." He looks like a nice fella.
This is when it all hits me:
I've been going to shows for a long time. I thought I'd seen it all. But right now, I'm looking at a man wearing makeup and a cape singing to a human skull in a noose and the person ruling the pit is a 9/10 girl in a low cut Bathory shirt singing along all the while.

The show was great. Worth the 25 dollars and then some.

Somebody post the setlist I have to run to a meeting. If not I will edit later.

If you're on the fence with this show, GO!

That's fucking hilarious.

This show sounds great. I was on the fence but I cannot miss the set list on this tour!

This made me chuckle!

I really really do hope I can make this show.

I agree. I never saw them before so I have no frame of reference in terms of him vs. Maniac, but his performance was great. Human skull also helps lol.

That being said, the most amazing part of that band is Hellhammer. The guy is a fucking machine.

Does he still trigger the hell out of the drums? That sounded so fucking stupid when I saw them at MDF.

A lot of kick drums in bigger bands are triggered. It's all about the sound. In this case the sound was phenomenal and didn't sound electronic at all.

First time seeing Mayhem and I enjoyed it. Also enjoyed Hate's set. KoK were alright and I'm glad we walked in with only a song or two left in Abigail's set.

DigMySpanky, I think you are confusing Abigail Williams with KoK, as KoK were right before Mayhem. I also saw that Disturbed shirt wearing dude rocking the corpse paint, he must have thought it was Mayhem Festival...

Seems like most metal tours nowadays are having these same bands on them.
