Candlemass - Tales of Creation (1989) ![]() When I think of doom metal, I think of bands like Pentagram, Saint Vitus, Trouble, and of course the Swedish gods....Candlemass!! This album is so full of misery and darkness it just makes you depressed!! So much agony in Messiah's voice through out the songs. A very haunting release!! Last album to feature (and last album I gave a shit about until 2005's self titled album) vocalist Messiah Marcolin. Line Up: Messiah Marcolin: Vocals Leif Edling: Bass Mats "Mappe" Björkman: Guitars Lars "Lasse" Johansson: Guitars Jan Lindh: Drums Tracks to Check Out: "The Edge of Heaven" "Dark Reflections" "Under the Oak" "Through the Infinitive Halls of Death"

Alice Cooper - Killer (1971) I have been a huge Alice Cooper fan most of my life, and this album is no exception. The Alice Cooper Band was at their best on this release!! This album also caused controversy from the attached calendar, which shows Alice Cooper hanging from a noose with a stab wound in his torso. Line Up: Alice Cooper: Vocals Glen Buxton: Guitars Michael Bruce: Guitars Dennis Dunaway: Bass Neal Smith: Drums Tracks to Check Out: "Under My Wheels" "Dead Babies" "Halo of Flies" "Desperado"

Bitch - Be My Slave (1983) ![]() One of the first albums released by Metal Blade Records. This female fronted band from LA sang about bondage and S&M themes. Just a great traditional heavy metal record! Not for wimps!! Line Up: Betsy Bitch: Vocals David Carruth: Guitars Jett Black: Bass Robby Settles: Drums Tracks to Check Out: "Leatherbound" "Be My Slave" "Riding in Thunder" "Heavy Metal Breakdown"

Amorphis - Tales from the Thousand Lakes (1994) ![]() The only album I really like from this Finnish band. The music is very well written and performed. There is a very dark and depressing feel to the music. I often listen to this album in the winter time to get me in the mood for the season. Line Up: Tomi Koivusaari: Vocals / Guitars Esa Holopainen: Guitars Olli-Pekka Laine: Bass Jan Rechberger: Drums Kasper Mårtenson: Keyboards Tracks to Check Out: "Black Winter Day" "Forgotten Sunrise" "First Doom" "To Fathers Cabin"

Malevolent Creation - Stillborn (1993) ![]() This album recieved horrible reviews due to the very poor production. The band originally wanted to go back and have the album re-mastered but due to Roadrunner's greed, they wouldn't pay for it. The songs however, I think are very well written and if the production wasn't so poor, this would be considered one of their best releases. Line Up: Brett Hoffmann: Vocals Phil Fasciana: Guitars Jon Rubin: Guitars Jason Blachowicz: Bass Alex Marquez: Drums Tracks to Check Out: "Disciple of Abhorrence" "Ordain the Hierarchy" "Ethnic Cleansing" "Dominion of Terror"

Satan - Court in the Act (1983) ![]() Satan was a NWOBHM band which formed in 1979. This album is a great piece of work. Excellent guitar work, pounding drums, and high soaring vocals!! How these guys didn't get as big as other NWOBHM bands like Iron Maiden and Saxon is beyond me?!? Line Up: Brian Ross: Vocals Russ Tippins: Guitars Steve Ramsey: Guitars Graeme English: Bass Sean Taylor: Drums Tracks to Check Out: "Trial by Fire" "Broken Treaties" "No Turning Back" "Blades of Steel"

Onslaught - In Search of Sanity (1989) ![]() While it's a great record, it's nowhere as great as "Power From Hell" and "The Force" were. Not as much brutality and evil on this album. The album was originally recorded with Sy Keeler on vocals, but the label wanted more commercial success so they made the band re-record it with Steve Grimmett (Grim Reaper) on vocals. If this album was released by a different band, it would of became a classic, but I guess Onslaught fans knew what they wanted, and this wasn't it. Line Up: Steve Grimmett: Vocals Nige Rockett: Guitars Rob Trotman: Guitars James Hinder: Bass Steve Grice: Drums Tracks to Check Out: "Welcome to Dying" "Shellshock" "In Search of Sanity" "Lightning War"

Fear Factory - Demanufacture (1995) ![]() I have always been very picky with Fear Factory, but I loved this album. The guitar work is great and Burton C. Bell's vocals go from very angry screams, to well sung melodies. Plus Raymond Herrera is a fucking beast on the drums!!! Line Up: Burton C. Bell: Vocals Dino Cazares: Guitars / Bass Raymond Herrera: Drums *Although Christian Olde Wolbers is credited on bass, he joined the band after the album was recorded. All Bass on the album was played by Dino Cazares.* Tracks to Check Out: "Pisschrist" "Replica" "New Breed" "Zero Signal"

Root - The Book (1999) ![]() I don't think there is any other black metal band quite like Root. Where most black metal bands feature very high pitched screeching vocals, Root features operatic vocals which somehow fit very well!! Super Satanic stuff (as Big Boss founded the first Church of Satan in Czech Republic. Line Up: Big Boss: Vocals Ashok: Guitars Petr "Blackie" Hošek: Guitars Alesh Dostál: Bass Evil: Drums Tracks to Check Out: "The Mystical Words of the Wise" "The Message of the Time" "Remember Me!" "The Book"

Line Up: Paul Speckmann: Vocals / Bass Chris Mittleburn: Guitars Kirk Miller: Guitars John Leprich: Drums Tracks to Check Out: "Re-Entry and Destruction" "The Final Countdown" "Pay to Die" "The Truth"
