I have to admit I haven't given Chinese Democracy a fair shot as it didn't impress me on first listen. Is it worth revisiting and how does the stuff translate live?

Go at it with an open mind that it won't sound like Slash-era stuff and it's a great record. You really have to separate yourself from the fact it's under the name Guns N Roses. It sounds like it's from the same thought process as the song Estranged but a whole albums worth of odd ball music that has a progressive feel.

Live? The songs work very well!

Axl is a complete dipshit, i HATE that he tours under the GnR banner & goes on 2 hours late, and Chinese Dem is NOT a GnR record, but it is pretty damn good on it's own merits.
