BD's top fifty albums of all time
Ahoy, and welcome to the thread. This list will be in alphabetical order (by artist) as opposed to ranked order to avoid petty arguments (and because I know a few albums on here may anger some of you), with short blurbs of each album (a sentence or two, maybe three). I'll try posting two or three per day, but we'll see how it goes. I pledge to not abandon this thread as I did with my end-of-year thread a few months ago, so have faith, and I hope you all enjoy this thread. We'll start with a more modern release...
After the Burial (USA)
Rareform (2008) Sumerian Records ![]() One of the few actually good technical core bands around, After the Burial's Rareform is their greatest album; though it was re-recorded in 2009 with ATB's new vocalist, the original vocalist on the album, Grant Luoma, helps the album veer away from its deathcore roots and more towards a technical death metal direction. The guitarwork on the album is very good too... probably my favorite album ever released under Sumerian Records. Favorite tracks: Berzerker (Re-recorded version) Cursing Akhenaten (Original)

Good first pick. Definitely After the Burial's best album, although I do like their new vocalist a little bit more so I slightly prefer the reissue. The guitarwork is fantastic throughout. "Berzerker" is one of my favorite songs of the past decade, it also has one of the few breakdowns I've ever heard that is absoultely awesome.

Agalloch (USA)
Ashes Against the Grain (2006) The End Records ![]() I trust you all know who Agalloch are... a magical and emotional journey into the minds of the extremely gifted Portland, OR-based USBM quartet, Ashes Against the Grain may possibly be one of my favorite black metal albums. With atmospheric and calming pieces like "Fire Above, Ice Below" and "Limbs", as well as beautiful yet anger-filled songs like "Falling Snow", the album is an extraordinary work of art, coming together at only eight tracks, altogether a mere hour. While other Agalloch albums such as The Mantle and latest release Marrow of the Spirit also hold a place in my heart, Ashes is without a doubt their best album. Favorite tracks: Falling Snow Not Unlike the Waves

Not without a doubt their best, but you can't go wrong with any of their albums that's for sure.
