Priestess -- Montreal, Quebec -- September 30th, 2011
Venue: Katacombes
Opening band: Mad Parish This was a free show, but the only publicity was a facebook event. This made the concert even better because only people who actually like the bads were there. I got there at about 9:30 and I was told that the doors would open at 10:00. It finally started around 11:00, which is oddly late, but it was totally worth the wait! Mad Parish were ok, they're a Maiden rip-off heavy metal band. Priestess were incredibly great. They sounded heavy as hell, a lot more than on the CDs and their performance was flawless. They had tons of energy, and so did the crowd. I really enjoyed the setlist, I was surprised by the number of songs they played even if the show was free and very late (it ended around 1:30). I would have liked to hear "It Baffles the Mind", but I can't complain. Priestess The Shakes Everything That You Are The Firebird Murphy's Law Lunar I Am the Night, Colour Me Black Sideways Attack Two Kids The Gem Come Back (new song) Raccoon Eyes Lay Down Trapped in Space & Time Communicating Via-Eyes Blood Lady Killer

Nice! I'm glad to see I'm not the only Priestess fan. They played a really small club in Atlanta last November, and you could literally walk up to the stage.
Plus I bought a copy of Hello, Master from the drummer and had him sign it

Was that at the Drunken Unicorn?

Yep, that's the one! Still one of the weirdest venues I've been to.

I've had a bunch of opportunities to go there for shows, but since it's 18+ my brother (pretty much the only person who goes to metal shows with me) could never go with me, and my parents wouldn't let me go to shows alone

They get some good bands every now and then. I think the night after Priestess played, Black Tusk were playing a show there. You should definitely get down there some time. Intimate doesn't even begin to describe how small it is.

Yeah, if there's something good during winter break/summer (I'm out of state for college right now) I'll have to hit it up. Oh, and as for Black Tusk, they're doing an album release show the 29th (just checked the venue's calendar, you should do that - there's a couple good metal shows).

Yeah, I just saw that. I've never really given Black Tusk a fair shake. I love Kylesa and Baroness, but I've yet to listen to more than one Black Tusk song. Still, I may hit up the album release show, it looks pretty cool.
