Jesus christ, this, so much. You are a god, brad. Crack the Skye is not a Mastodon album, even though its still great.

And I definitely find it cool that even though we all disagree on the rankings, we still all love their material. It's a testament to how perfect of a band they are.

Something tells me I need to listen to this again. Listened once and didn't get into it very much. Everybody for the most part seems to love it. Might see about giving it the old college try again.

So what do people think of The Ruiner? My friend just sent it to me because I got the standard version of the album but I probably like it better than Thickening and Creature Lives.

I think the main riff sounds a lot like the riff in Spectrelight. Near the middle it reminds me of Blood Mountain. It's a pretty good song. I'm upset they just didn't include it in the regular version of the album.

And if we're doing lists.

1. Leviathan
2. Remission
3. Crack The Skye
4. Blood Mountain
5. The Hunter

That being said, I love the Hunter.

Lincoln, stop being an elitist dick. Get off the internet for a couple of years and come back when you're more mature. Hell, I remember I was pretty immature on here when I was 17. But I'm pretty immature anyway, so you can probably come back at 17 and be fine.

Anyways...CTS is a fantastic album. Who cares if it doesn't sound like Mastodon?

Well since we're all doing rankings...............

1.) Blood Mountain
2.) Crack the Skye
3.) Leviathan
4.) Remission
5.) The Hunter

I consider all their albums great though, including The Hunter.

1) Leviathan
2) Remission
3) The Hunter
4) Blood Mountain
5) Crack The Skye

On the Crack The Skye debate, definitely the weakest from Mastodon, however bad Mastodon is still amazing music soooooooo I still do rate it very highly. The Hunter at the moment is sounding amazing to me, and that's not changing with repeated listens. Blood Mountain never clicked with me as much as it did with other Mastodon fans, and Remission and Leviathan just floor me every time I listen to them.

Mastodon are still one of the most consistent bands going in terms of continued output, and The Hunter hasn't changed that, least not for me. The Hunter may be a different approach for them in terms of album writing, but the technicality and the hook is still there, not to mention the unique sound. So what if it doesn't sound like Remission or Leviathan? Would you rather they tread water as a band and cover old territory? I know I wouldn't.
