I'm a bit late to the party, since I've been traveling on business for the past week and working pretty much around the clock (hence, I've had no time to even check in and lurk on here since early last week).

Anyhoo, this thread seems like a REALLY good idea...no, wait: http://www.metalsetlists.com/showthread.php?t=15621

Yeah, it's fucking brilliant.

What your library is composed of? Yes. What you currently listen to? Maybe not.

I have an external hard drive with somewhere in the neighborhood of 400 GB worth of music (50,000+ songs / 5,000+ albums), with everything from rock & metal to electronica, jazz, world, soundtracks, spoken word (including comedy), etc.

About a third of it represents stuff I actually own, a third is copied from a friend of mine from a few years ago who has a hard drive like mine and very diverse musical tastes, and a third of it is stuff I downloaded and listened to, but decided not to buy and just haven't purged yet.

So the long & short of it is, there's a shitload of stuff on there I don't listen to anymore. That's why I chose to make my thread based on just my mp3 player library, which although it's also fairly diverse, is all stuff I still currently listen to. I'd be glad to necro my old thread (or see somebody else do it), but I don't want to steal the spotlight from this one necessarily. (In fact, it's funny because I've been thinking about doing that lately anyhow, and now this thread pops up).

Anyway, I'm not even sure how I could go about doing this for my entire hard drive of music. Needless to say, it's not all loaded into a library like iTunes or WMP or Winamp or any other app like that - and if I highlighted the entire contents of the hard drive and selected "play in [insert name of media player here]", I'd crash my PC for sure.

TL;DR: I can't actually participate in this thread per se, but I had a very similar idea a while back, and it resulted in a fun thread while it lasted. Maybe I'll do it again.

Just do the damn shuffle and put a *star" next to the song if you don't listen to it. We all did it, natty patty, now it's your turn.

Tell me how I do that with 50,000 songs without crashing my PC.

Like I said, I'd have to queue them all up first. That would crash my system.

I also posted - if you notice - that the entire contents of the drive are not in my library. I actually despise the library functions on all players and try my damnedest not to use them - because they always just fuck everything up, so I just don't bother. I have better things to do besides sort out a bunch of music files in a fucking library.

Um...well, yeah.

If it was as easy as you'd said in your post, I would have done it already, so yes. You get sarcasm.

EDIT: Oh, and I really hate fucking libraries too, if you couldn't tell.
