Trust me on this one, I can't go into detail, but that tour is not happening in the next few months. Maybe summer or fall, but the next two times they tour, it won't be together.

Am I the only one who thinks the last couple of Summer Slaughters were a joke? Usually just one good band, two or three decent bands I'd watch on a better bill and crappy deathcore. They've only been going downhill since the first one, with the exception of whichever year Suffocation & Origin were on it, because here in NY they split it into two nights; one with all the death metal bands, and the other with Suicide Silence or whatever.

I thought this year's was great.

2007 - Necrophagist w/ Decapitated (pre-accident), Cephalic Carnage, Cattle Decap, The Faceless, As Blood Runs Black, Arsis, Ion Dissonance, Beneath the Massacre. The good easily outweighs the bad.

2008 - Black Dahlia Murder w/ Kataklysm, Vader, Cryptopsy, The Faceless, Despised Icon, Aborted, BoO, Psycroptic, Whitechapel. Honestly, one of the best lineups they've had, to me.

2009 - Necrophagist and Suffocation w/ Ensiferum, Darkest Hour, WoP, Dying Fetus, BoO, Origin, Beneath the Massacre, After the Burial, Decrepit Birth, Blackguard. Amazing stuff, but you can kinda see the crappy stuff start to creep up.

2010 - Decapitated (post-accident) w/ The Faceless, All Shall Perish, The Red Chord, Veil of Maya, Decrepit Birth, Cephalic Carnage, Animals As Leaders, Carnifex, Vital Remains. Easily the worst lineup for me. No idea what they were thinking when they booked most of these bands.

2011 - The Black Dahlia Murder and Whitechapel w/ Darkest Hour, Six Feet Under, Dying Fetus, As Blood Runs Black, Oceano, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Powerglove, Within The Ruins. Another horrible lineup, only a few bands save it from being the worst.

2012 - Cannibal Corpse and BTBAM w/ The Faceless, Periphery, Veil of Maya, JFAC, Goatwhore, Exhumed, Cerebral Bore. Although some of the bands here are bad, most of the good ones are new bands that are fucking amazing.

My suggestions - stop using the same bands over and over. I don't want Summer Slaughter to turn into Mayhem Fest. I like The Faceless, but give 'em a rest. Only one I don't mind seeing again is Necrophagist. SS to me is Necrophagist's tour.

2009 was awesome, that was one of my very first shows. Origin, Dying Fetus, Suffocation and Necrophagist were all great.

This year was pretty boring overall, except it was my first time seeing Cannibal Corpse, so that was the reason I went. I do like some of the openers they had like Goatwhore and The Faceless but I'd seen them all before and they got short sets. Exhumed was great too of course but I've seen them before too and I'll be seeing them probably get a longer set on that Napalm Death tour.

I always try to keep in perspective that this is a death metal/deathcore hybrid tour and they're always going to split the bill between those two genres. If not deathcore, they'll always have death metal and mix it up with something different like Between the Buried and Me this year (who I've never really cared for).

It really irked me that Whitechapel was a co-headliner last year though, what a waste.

Unfortunately Ensiferum and Decrepit Birth weren't at the date I went to. Since Decrepit Birth tours a ton I've seen them a lot since then, but I haven't seen Ensiferum.

I fondly remember Summer Slaughter 2009. My first Summer Slaughter. From Origin's guitar fucking up, to getting socked in the eye during Dying Fetus, to the outstanding performance by Suffocation, to finally getting to see Necrophagist. It was truly a magical time.

I wouldn't mind any of those rumored bands, but I'd prefer TDEP or Gojira since I haven't seen either of them yet. I've seen COB and TBDM five and eight times respectively, so I'd definitely prefer something different.
