Time Warp Time Again

I got a kick out of the last time I found an old Metal Edge magazine talking about the next "big" bands http://www.metalsetlists.com/showthread.php?t=17733 So I found the 2001 - 2004 years in review and I'm just going to put them all in 1 list b/c I don't figure that anybody cares to go through 4 seperate lists. Just wanted to list all of them and see what albums still actually hold up now. It's a very mainstream magazine so I'm not expecting much. It'll be funny if nothing else. Nevertheless here it is:

2001
1. SOAD - Toxcicity
2. Saliva - Every Six Seconds
3. Soil - Scars
4. Godhead - 2000 Years of Human Error
5. Beautiful Creatures - S/T
6. Lit - Atomic (WTF?)
7. Toadies - Hell Below/Stars
8. Dope - Life
9. Drowning Pool - Sinner
10. Machine Head - Supercharger
11. Slipknot - Iowa
12. Tool - Lateralus
13. Boyhitscar - S/T
14. Megadeth - The World Needs A Hero
15. Ozzy - Down To Earth
16. Tie....Staind - Break The Cycle / Sevendust - Animosity
17. Primer 55 - (the) New Release
18. Puddle Of Mudd - Come Clean
19. Tie... Slayer - God Hates Us All / Kittie - Oracle
20. STP - Shangri La Dee Da
21. P.O.D. - Satellite
22. Static-X - Machine
23. Crossbreed - Synthetic Division
24. Soundtrack to Rock Star movie
25. Tie...Tenacious D / Big Dumb Face - Duke Lion Fights The Terror

Wow. So just a few comments. W/ this logic Lateralus was barely better than Boyhitscar, but not as good as The Toadies, Lit, Dope and those others. Wow. Obviously in 2001 we were pretty much still balls deep in Nu-Metal. And Oracle just as good as God Hates Us All? Hell I was probably 17 when I got this magazine. What the hell did I know anyway?

2002 Gonna put in a couple that I found as the magazine didn't have 1 long list

10. Murderdolls - Beyond The Valley Of The Murderdolls
9. Saliva - Back In Your System
8. Jackyl - Reckless
7. Geoff Tate - S/T
6. Disturbed - Believe
5. Bon Jovi - Bounce
4. Local H - Here Comes The Zoo
3. Eminem - The Eminem Show (No seriously it's actually in the list in the magazine)
2. BLS - 1919 Eternal
1. Down - Down II

10. Geoff Tate - S/T
9. Star One - Space Metal
8. Rush - Vapor Trails
7. Porcupine Tree - In Abesnthia
6. Lana Lane - Project Shangri-La
5. Lacuna Coil - Comalies
4. Halford - Crucible
3. Disturbed - Believe
2. Bruce Dickinson - The Best Of...
1. Blind Guardian - A Night At The Opera

Sadly those were the most decent 2 lists I could find. No ridicule is even worth saying. They speak for themselves.

2003 No order other than alphabetical
A Perfect Circle- Thirteenth Step
AFI - Sing The Sorrow
All American Rejects - S/T
Anthrax - We've Come For You All
BLS - Blessed Hellride
Cold - Year Of The Spider
Darkness - Permission To Land
Devildriver - S/T
Dope - Group Therapy
Evanescence - Fallen
Godhead - Evolver
Godsmack - Faceless
House of 1000 Corpses Soundrack
Janes Addiction - Strays
Jet - Get Born
Korn - Take A Look In The Mirror
Lo-Pro - S/T
Marilyn Manson - Golden Age of Grotesque
John Mayer - Heavier Things (GTFO)
Memento - Beginnings
Metallica - St. Anger
Ministry - Animositisomina
Nickelback - The Long Road
Oleander - Joy Rider
Powerman 5000 - Transform
Puddle Of Mudd - Life On Display
Queensryche - Tribe
David Lee Roth - Diamond Dave
Sevendust - Seasons
Static-X - Shadow Zone
Supersuckers - Motherfuckers Be Trippin
Superjoint Ritual - Use Once And Destroy
To My Surprise - S/T
Type O Negative - Life Is Killing Me

Apparently they decided to name off almost every metal(ish) album that was released. Alot of those I don't understand. Couple of decent ones in there. But not much.

2004
10. WASP - The Neon God - Part 1 & 2
9. 3 Inches Of Blood - Advance & Vanquish
8. Drowning Pool - Desensitized
7. Sum 41 - Chuck
6. Butch Walker - Letters
5. Soil - Redefine
4. Monster Magnet - Monoloithic Baby
3. Alter Bridge - One Day Remains
2. Slipknot - Vol. 3
1. Velvet Revolver - Contraband

10. Tie... Coheed & Cambria - In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth 3 / Courtney Love - America's Sweetheart
9. Slipknot - Vol. 3
8. Avenged Sevenfold - Waking The Fallen
7. Tie...Killswitch Engage - The End Of Heartache / Papa Roach - Getting Away With Murder
6. Brides Of Destruction - Here Comes The Brides
5. Ministry - Houses Of The Mole
4. Velvet Revolver - Contraband
3. Helmet - Size Matters
2. Lamb Of God - Ashes Of The Wake
1. Chevelle - Theis Type Of Thinking (Could Do Us In)

10. Iommi/Hughes - DEP Sessions
9. Penumbra - Seclusion
8. The Rasmus - Dead Letters
7. Kick Axe - IV
6. Michael Sadler - Clear
5. Papa Roach - Getting Away With Murder
4. Asia - Silent Nation
3. Lostphrophets - Start Something
2. Leaves' Eyes - Lovelorn
1. Nightwish - Once

Well I guess that the '04 would have to be the best lists of the 4 but still alot to be desired. Anyway just figured to post this for fun and see if anybody else experiences nostalgia while reading this b/c I know I did.

At first I thought this had to do with Rocky Horror Picture show.

Almost all these lists are laughable. But I know a lot of the kids here wouldn't have heard of even half of these bands on this list. 2000-2001 was when I started really getting into music so I k know almost every album here.

2001
SOAD, Tool and a bunch of gay shit nobody cool cares about.
Meanwhile Nightwish were out struggling to give their last blow of speed metal before succumbing to orchestra's and Tarja's lonely nights.

Also, there seems to be a definite lack of Panopticon and rEVOLVEr for 2004.

There was also this wonderful sonofabitch:

It's not as good as the three albums before it, but it's better than 97% of the shit on their 2001 list.

Toxicity, Vapor Trails, God Hates Us All, Lateralus, The Eminem Show, Crucible, A Night At The Opera, The Best of Bruce Dickinson, We've Come For You All, and the Iommi album are good but the rest is trash.

Down To Earth and The World Needs a Hero are really bad albums by good bands.

Lateralus is miles ahead of anything on the 2001 list.

There's about 10-15 records there that I would seriously rate, the rest is either garbage (Kittie) or 'safe' heavier stuff that I know people won't complain about at a party (P.O.D., Static X).
