Journey -- Holmdel, NJ -- August 24th, 2011
Journey / Foreigner / Night Ranger Concert at PNC Bank Arts Center, Holmdel, N.J., USA, on August 24, 2011
What can I say? An absolutely packed lawn (seemingly beyond capacity), and sold out theater, saw a great high energy show tonight. Night Ranger rocked the crowd as they filed in. Great opening set. Foreigner played all classics of course, apparently Mick Jones was ill and indisposed so Joel Hoekstra from Night Ranger filled in flawlessly! The guy is ridiculous. For those of you who don’t know he was the lead guitarist in the band for Rock of Ages on broadway, and has played with many, many top acts. The guy completely smokes! And Kelly Hanson is a perfect singer for Foreigner, he absolutely nailed every song. Journey played a tight streamlined set, going quickly from song to song, very little banter in between. My only complaint is that they should have played longer. The set was over in 1 hour! And they stretched the 2 encores another 15 minutes. Not one song from their excellent “Revelation” cd, just 2 new “Eclipse” tracks and the rest from the greatest hits. Some of which were over before you realized it, (open arms took maybe 2 minutes?) Guys, would it kill you to play some catalog tracks that the chicks don’t know?? Night Ranger 6:55-7:30 1. Lay It On Me (new) 2. Sing Me Away 3. High Enough (Damn Yankees cover) 4. HOLY SHIT THAT JOURNEY SET!
I gotta fucking see this when they're here next month. Great review and sets, but from now on when you make a thread, just include the headliner in the title! Thanks!

Pretty surprising to see Lă Do Dā in there! I'd rather get Somethin' to Hide or Winds of March from Infinity, but I'd have been happy to get anything out of the ordinary.

That seriously sucks that Journey is playing that short of a set. They usually play around 2 hours.

Such is the misfortune of the triple bill.

Yeah, but I think they did a triple bill 2 or 3 years ago with Heart and Cheap Trick and still played around 2 hours.

Mick Jones didn't play? Isn't he the only original member? So basically it was a Foreigner cover band!!

Really shitty what's happened to the Journey setlist over the past month or two. It's basically just become nothing but the biggest hits. I really would've liked to get to see stuff like "Escape", "Mother Father", and a few newer tracks as well.
