Metallica - Ride the Lightning

Out of the first four Metallica albums, it's either really hard or really easy for people to come up with just one favorite. For me it was really easy, this album has been in my life for the longest time and it's an all around incredible album.
>Implies this is the highest Metallica will get on this list.

Darn, they shouldn't be so low. And honestly, even though this album is awesome, it's my least favorite of the first four.

A timeless classic.

Ballads aren't really a strong point for the more melodic thrash bands, but Fade to Black is one of the few thrash ballads that actually gets to me emotionally.

meh, never been a huge fan of RTL. The beginning riff of the title track is amazing, but the song isn't too good. Fight Fire with Fire is a highlight. Creeping Death is pretty good, though the chorus is sorta annoying. Don't really like anything else.

and I like that S.O.D. album a fair amount, nice pick

I'm not too big of thrash albums in the style of Metallica, really. Metallica does it right though. I'm more into the faster and more chaotic albums which you'll see a lot of coming up (if you haven't already).

And you of all people will probably say that this next one is too low, but I think it's just right compared to what albums follow But trust me you'll approve

Speaking of which, gonna be posting #9 later today.

Skeletonwitch - Beyond the Permafrost

Another one of the best recent thrash albums to come out, and one of the best newer thrash bands out there today. Ever since hearing them for the first time when I saw them open for The Black Dahlia Murder 2 years ago, I have been hooked on them ever since and this album shows why.

Of course, this band album is different from most newer thrash bands and albums because Skeletonwitch play with a huge influence from black metal, incorporate some of that into their music, thus making blackened thrash metal. I see them having more thrash metal in their sound than black metal, but it's obvious when you listen to it. The vocals and some of the riffs are what you would see in black metal. The speed, ferocity, fast drums and all around craziness makes up their thrash sound.

The album itself is fucking amazing. Everything sounds incredible here. The riffs are catchy, the solos are insane yet played very well, the vocals range from higher pitched black metal screams to low thrash/death metal grunts, and the song structures are perfect. Everything basically flows together in this album and it never lets down throughout the duration, which is pretty short. But if they were to make the songs any longer I can guess that they would repeat themselves and it would just drag on. Skeletonwitch know what they were doing with this, though.

Going back to the guitar solos, they are very fast for the most part but in songs like Sacrifice for the Slaughtergod and Within My Blood they have dueling guitar solos which really make the song what it is. It's amazing how every member of this band on here is incredibly talented at what they do when playing this style of thrash.

I know a ton of you on here adore this band and love their live shows, but who doesn't? You all have probably heard this album before as well, but listen to it again just because it's awesome

Highlights:
Upon Wings of Black
Sacrifice for the Slaugthergod
Vengeance Will Be Mine
Soul Thrashing Black Sorcery BEST SONG TITLE EVER
Within My Blood

I love Skeletonwitch, but putting them in the top 10 thrash albums is silly!

I know it's a personal list, though.
