Agreed, that's what I should have put. Don't want annoying comments about how generic my list is, how it's a complete disregard to so many other classic albums, etc.

Solid opening top ten!

Pantera's Vulgar Display of Power, Animals As Leaders self-titled, Meshuggah's Catch 33 and Jeff Loomis' first solo album would be in there for me. All of those are just on another plane in terms of the guitar and what can be done with song-writing and sounds with a guitar.

Any of Steve Morse's solo albums (as opposed to SMB albums). Book of Shadows. Something by Trace Bundy. Something by Savatage. Diary of A Madman.

I'd also be tempted to go for Train of Thought. I know their heavier direction wasn't entirely appreciated by most, but the guitar playing on that disc is a different class.
