Periphery are far more technical, their instrumentals are where its at for me, singer ruins most of their songs.

TesseracT are on another end of the spectrum, they aren't as technical, and have the vocals as another layer of instrumentation, its all one big beuatifully layered melody.

I always though of Tesseract as a bastard child of Tool and Meshuggah, incorporating the best elements of each. As much as I love Periphery, Tesseract's the best "djent" band out there by far. Really unique sound.
