Free Volunteer Opportunities Abroad??

So, I want to volunteer abroad after I finish this last year of university, but don't want to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars to do so. I already know about the Peace Corps and am strongly considering applying, but I want to consider all of my options first.

Info:
-Bachelors in Psychology
-Must be FREE, and preferably cover travel expenses
-I have some experience in working on environmental awareness and childhood education, but other than that no relevant skills.
-5 years of German and 1 year of university-level Spanish language skills.

So, anyone have any ideas or have personal experience with free or very cheap volunteer organizations? Give me some tips!

I have a friend who joined the Peace Corps and not only is it free, they forgive student loans. You won't be able to pick and choose where you go - he took five years of Russian and is currently on a crash course in Mongolian - but it's definitely the right call for what you're looking for.

Yeah, that's surely the only one that makes sense. I mean, no one here is going to pay your travel costs

yeah I was just seeing if anyone else knew of other organizations to join before I commit.

I've also been offered jobs teaching English in China and Korea. I would like to do both teach and join PeaceCorps eventually, I'm just deciding on which I want to do first.

Haha, I know SO many people who do this. There never seems to be a shortage of jobs for English teachers out there. Most of the time no qualifications are needed, and they give you an apartment!

You don't need to.

yep, it is the student's responsibility to learn english. they give you accommodations and sometimes even help pay for your flight. many places will take you even if you don't have a TEFL (teaching english as a foreign language) certificate. you can get TEFL certified with an online course for a few hundred dollars.

Both of those sound really awesome.

Just curious, are you doing these because you can't find employment?

Not really, I've had part-time work and I'm a full-time student. Financial aid/scholarships actually result in me getting an extra 2,000 a semester, so I'm okay for money. Peace Corps is something I just really want to do to for 3 main reasons: 1. Help people out and make a difference. 2. Unforgettable experience living in a 3rd world country cut off from modern life for years. 3. Looks great on resumes.

Teaching abroad would be something I'd actually get paid for, so the money is the main incentive there which is what sets it apart from peace corps really.
