I like what you are trying to do but Dream Theater is a Progressive Metal band without a shadow of a doubt.

Images and Words is my 2nd favorite album of all time, and it is Progressive Metal. I hope you prove me wrong by actually knowing that there is not a single DT album that is just straight Metal all the way through. not a one. The closest are Train Of Thought and Systematic Chaos, but they still have a at least one mellow song on each album.

If having songs that aren't strictly metal on an album disqualifies a band from being metal there are a whole lot of bands that would be disqualified. Opeth, Amorphis,, ok so most progressive metal bands you can name... and quite a few bands that aren't prog probably. Hell I've even heard melotic death metal bands have balads or slow songs. Are you arguing that any band that don't stick to a single metal formula aren't metal?

Jesus Christ. People are still going on about this? Do you guys not read the whole thread? I'm just referring to Images and Words here. Am I going to call Damnation from Opeth not "Metal" because in a few songs Mikael doesn't growl his ass off? Hell no.
