3 Inches of Blood -- Vancouver, British Columbia -- May 28th, 2011
An excellent show!
First band of the night was called 'Ancients', and they were absolutely incredible. Fans of bands like The Sword or Mastodon should definitely check them out. These guys are great. Listen to them and be pleased. http://www.myspace.com/ancientsvan Set: Giants Born to Die Humanist Second band was 'Waster' from Winnipeg, Manitoba. They were quite energetic and seemed to get a great response, but I don't know any of the songs they played. Third band was 'Barn Burner' from Montreal, Quebec. They were a lot more bluesier than the other bands, and not too energetic in comparison, but seemed to impress a few people. Direct support came from 'Cancer Bats'. I didn't really like their music, but they put on a decent show. Too bad they clearly attracted the douchebag fans. They played a cover of 'Sabotage' by the Beastie Boys, and that's the only song I recognized. The best parts of their set were the 3 or 4 fights that broke out (all between Cancer Bats fans against each other). Hilarious tough-guy fest. Finally, the hometown headliners: 3 Inches of Blood. Not much needs to be said about them playing to their own city. It was fantastic. The band sounded excellent. Also noted that there were no fights between these fans at all. Set list may be slightly out of order in the middle, but all songs are included. Deadly Sinners Destroy the Orcs Lords of Change Trial of Champions Fear On The Bridge (Upon The Boiling Sea I) Strength of the Grave Call of the Hammer Forest King Night Marauders The Goatrider's Horde Battles and Brotherhood --- Silent Killer |

. I do like the venue though. Used to hate missing so many shows at the Commodore due to their age restrictions. You definitely have to see them next time they're playing! I'd love to hear an 'Advance and Vanquish' set, but their new stuff is great as well. Just heard that The Sword will be coming to the Rickshaw in June. Going to have to see that one for sure. |

You Americans definitely had the better tour package! I would have traded Cancer Bats for Skeletonwitch any day.
