Nice. I'm not a big death metal fan, but I fucking love Pit of Zombies.

Six Feet Under
Maximum Violence
1999

More hate. Bring it. Chris Barnes' last great album. I get hated on, but I'm a Six Feet Under fan. While they've made some ok albums in the 2000's, none come even close to this one. This album's simple, heavy, groovy rythyms, combined w/ Barnes' last good (his vocals haven't been great since 1994 IMO) vocal output make this one my favorite SFU release. Probably the best produced SFU album as well. Crystal clear sound quality throughout, vocals are very clear and audible, and all instruments mesh well together.

'Feasting on The Blood of The Insane' is not your typical death metal opener. It's a slower tune, and never really gets all that brutal. However, it's somewhat complex structure, heaviness and tightness make it a great song. The middle of this album doesn't drag in the least, courtesy of 'No Warning Shot', the infamous "Die Motherfucker! Die! Die!" song. It's faster than most SFU material and is just a great tune. Very good live song as well. A bizarre KISS cover, 'War Machine' follows. Like I said, it's weird, but I don't mind it. 'Torture Killer' is a simple, effective tune in the 9 spot, and the album ends w/ arguable SFU's best song, 'Hacked To Pieces'. A heavy heavy main riff and simple (Greg Gall is not a talented drummer) rythym section are effective in solidifying this one as one of their best.

Hacked To Pieces

Oh I know. I'm just so used to there being maybe one not so shocking album in a list, or one that completely sucks with one good album. While I can't agree with the full list, I can't necessarily disagree for the reasoning.

Good list so far, let's see the shocking 18 albums to come!

Glad you understand. It seems like every Top Death Metal Album list I've ever read always has the same old-school albums. So I figured I'd do one and be honest with what I enjoy listening to the most.

That's what a personal favorites list is all about.

A band a lot of you have probably never heard of. I just recently checked these guys out, thanks to a very kind member here. I quickly fell in love. These guys are very.........unique, that's the best way I can put it. They don't really fall into a certain subgenre of death metal. I see them advertised as brutal death, which I don't think they are. Their songs have too many "parts" for it to be considered brutal death, but too brutal to be tech death, etc. I would consider them atypical deathgrind. Like I said, it's tough the describe them, but they are totally worth checking out.

The 2nd track 'Slut' is a great track. Some great + brutal parts, then a rapid switch to some technical riffs. A really bizarre, almost rap part at one point. Kinda offputting, but I guess it fits into the song, cause I still liked it. most of their tracks have variances of brutal death, grind, tech death, and even some deathcore. 'Smile then Bleed' is probably the 2nd strongest track. A heavy down tuned main riff carries this one and punches you in the mouth from the get go. 'Pledge of Retaliation' follows that one up nicely, w/ more unique mixes of multiple subgenres of death metal. Vocalist is talented. A great mix of shrieks, insanely gutteral growls, and even some piq squeals that aren't irritating. For those of you who aren't familiar w/ these guys, check them out!

Cool choice! I haven't heard these guys before, but they sound pretty fantastic.

I'm wondering, since you're including all genres of death metal, whether Opeth will appear on your list.

I won't confirm or deny anything

Glad you liked it! Definately check out more by these guys. One of the few bands that are experimental that are still brutal + nasty. It's a shame, as it seems they've never toured NA. At least I couldn't find any info of it.
