My apologies on the lack of updates. Haven't had much down time lately.

I was wondering what happened to this thread! I still can't wait to see your top 10, and #1. Hopefully we see some Opeth...

Suffocation
Effigy of The Forgotten
1991

This album really needs no introduction. So much of what grindcore has become can be traced back to this masterpiece. Suffocation has such a unique sound, and they've stuck to the same formula for much of their career. I mean you could listen to 'Blood Oath' and think it sounds similar to 'Effigy'. True, but at the same time, they're different. Hard to explain, but I think you guys catch my drift.

It's tough for me to choose more than 1 or 2 favorites from this album, because the whole thing is so great. Straight through the album, it's brutal, groovy, and catchy. I think a couple of the middle tunes are kinda meh, but nothing that isn't at worse "just good". I love how "Liege of Inveracity' takes right off and kicks you in the balls. A prototypical Suffocation-type rythym fronts some amazing speedy drumming courtesy of the great Mike Smith. The breakdown around 2:52 should be played for all of the current deathcore bands, then they should be kicked in da troat and be told "THIS IS A FUCKING BREAKDOWN!!!!!!". The bass intro of the title track is another highlight of the album. The whole song is great, but I really like the intro especially. The intro is put to a rather abrupt end w/ some drumming that nearly gave me an MI the first time I heard it. 'Jesus Wept' is my favorite tune. Such a groovy and heavy rythym, I can only imagine how amazing that song is live. Sadly, I've never seen these guys live. Hopefully soon!!

Standout Tracks
Liege of Inveracity
Jesus Wept

If I were to rate the top ten death metal albums of all time, one per band, Slaughter Of The Soul would probably be about #3
