Def Leppard - Pyromania (1983) ![]() This is one of those few "Fuck you, I love this album" sort of selections I will have on this list, as it's rather taboo for metal fans to actually like any Def Leppard. The truth is that this was the first rock/metal CD I ever bought, way back when I was only 11 or 12, and I still do enjoy pretty much the whole thing. This album and High and Dry were a very nice meeting point between a harder, NWOBHM-ish sound and a more commercial sounding one. The guitars were still very present in the songwriting and the mix, and the songs weren't total pop garbage yet. The band went very downhill shortly after, but I believe this is a great classic hard rock album, deserving of praise. Tracklisting: 01 Rock! Rock! (Til You Drop) (3:52) 02 Photograph (4:12) 03 Stagefright (3:46) 04 Too Late For Love (4:30) 05 Die Hard the Hunter (6:17) 06 Foolin' (4:32) 07 Rock of Ages (4:09) 08 Comin' Under Fire (4:20) 09 Action! Not Words (3:49) 10 Billy's Got a Gun (5:56) Featured song: "Coming Under Fire" Last edited by Maiden33; 04-30-2011 at 09:15 AM. |

Pyromania was the first album I ever heard where I liked every song (also when i was like 12) and to this day its one of my favorite albums. and great choice for the featured song! Coming Under Fire is probably in my top 10 favorite Leppard songs. Such an underrated song.

I like Dream Theater's first album. It's just Charlie's voice was a bit strange for them. Otherwise most of the songs are excellent on WDADU. I wasn't even aware Dominici was doing anything in music again. I'll have to check that out.
There's nothing wrong with putting Pyromania on your list. The album rocks and I still listen to it today. I was five when that album came out and Def Leppard became my favorite band for a little while because of Pyromania. It's my favorite Leppard album. The only thing is you picked one of the two weaker tunes as the 'featured track'. I would've gone with Die Hard The Hunter.

Y&T - Mean Streak (1983) ![]() I only came to realize how much I love Y&T after seeing them live on a whim here in Allentown about a year ago. Always been a casual fan, but recently have realized that this album (and its predecessor, "Black Tiger") are two of the very best early 80's hard rock/metal records. Dave Meniketti's guitar playing rips and the vocals are very good as well, and the songs have enough hooks while still maintaining their hard rock edge, unlike the band's later output. This is simply a MUST HEAR album for anyone who likes 80's metal. Tracklisting: 01 Mean Streak (4:06) 02 Straight Through the Heart (4:14) 03 Lonely Side of Town (4:48) 04 Midnight in Tokyo (5:41) 05 Breaking Away (4:42) 06 Hang 'Em High (5:30) 07 Take You to the Limit (4:57) 08 Sentimental Fool (3:11) 09 Down and Dirty (3:54) Featured Track: "Midnight in Tokyo" |
