So, it's Joseph Gordon Levitt as a rocker type dude based mostly on Cliff Burton from Metallica who just appears out of nowhere in some kid's life. And Natalie Portman's in it. And I just watched a full 2-minute trailer and still have no idea what the fuck the movie is about.

Anyone else seen anything from it?



I think I'll just wait for DethMaiden to cinema-stalk Portman and tell me what's it like.

I read a review on FilmDrunk (they saw it at a festival), and they said it was great. I'd love to see it.

Yeah... I'm growing less interested. They seem to have favoured making no sense in order to create some kind of heart-tugging meaning.

There's a whole story to that. Basically JGL based his character on Burton, they showed Metallica the film without telling them that's what he'd done, they went "oh, he reminds us of Cliff", and because of that they let them use their songs.

Fun fact, but it still doesn't sound like much of a film. I'm hoping the stuff that just doesn't make sense actually turns out to be sensible in the movie. If it does, they're doing a piss-poor job of selling it up front.

It would be if I hadn't gleaned that much from the trailer. It still doesn't make sense. As evidenced by the last line in that description. That's exactly how the trailer portrays it too. JGL's character comes out of nowhere, hangs around unchallenged for no apparent reason, trashes shit, and the kid stands up to a school bully and all is fine.

Like I said above, piss-poor job of up-front advertising.
