MASTODON Hard At Work On Follow-Up To 'Crack The Skye
Noisecreep: Can you describe the general vibe of the material so far?
Dailor: It doesn't seem as proggy. There's moments, but it seems more riff-oriented. It seems a little more stripped down. [2004's] "Leviathan" was a little more stripped down, and it feels like that to me. Everything always changes once you go in the studio, but at the moment it seems like a really super-heavy LED ZEPPELIN or something. It has a lot of that [John] Bonham-esque groove to it, but really heavy and dark. I really like playing like that, and when it goes into those parts, I'm psyched What caught my eye from the interview, CANT WAIT. Source: http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/bla...omment-2318438

I hope it's more of a mix between the styles of Leviathan and the proggier stuff. I'm excited either way.
Also, for the love of god don't make anything like Remission again.

If it can capture the the magic of Crack, and be in and around the area of the quality of Crack, this will be a strong release.

If they keep going in the vein of CTS, I'll be happy. If they go back to a Leviathan-like sound, I'll be happy. They really can't do wrong IMO.

Nat, you are my hero.
And although I love both sides of the Mastodon spectrum, and Blood Mountain is one of my favorite albums of all time, I really miss the heaviness of Remission and the thrashiness of Leviathan. I think the band as a whole needed to cool down and let out all their progginess in CTS; now that they've done that, they can just go back to creating the classic Mastodon sound. Fuck yes. |
