The Nanotear, Metalliance and Profound Lore gigs look tasty. The NEMHF thing with Trap Them and Bison might not be too bad, either.

I was just at UT Austin a few weeks ago. They have one of the leading research programs in the country for carbon dioxide capture from coal flue gas in utility power plants, which is the area in which I'm currently working. I see folks from UT all the time at conferences and conventions, and in fact I have an e-mail in to the head of their CO2 research program right now regarding some questions about their experience and recommendations in this area.

I'm hoping I have to make another trip down there during SXSW, but I'm not holding my breath.

Anyway, when I was there a few weeks ago, there wasn't much going on in terms of metal shows, but all the folks I talked to about the subject seemed to be in agreement that Austin has one hell of a music scene in general - for metal and everything else as well. That would be a killer place to go to school, if you ask me.

I'd love to see the crowbar, helmet, weedeater show, but I've never had any luck getting into any of the SXSW shows. I don't buy a wrist band since i don't live in austin and I've tried 3 different times to buy a ticket to a specific show with no luck.

Fuck.

I just read on Grayceon's MySpace page that they are supposed to play both the Profound Lore Showcase and Brooklyn Vegan Party at SXSW.

Dammit! Now I NEED to go to Austin the week of SXSW!

Yeah, I really hope I can get into one of those. I also wonder if Jackie will play with Agalloch.

I don't tell many people this, primarily so they aren't disappointed in me if I don't get in, but it's far and away my favorite of the schools I'm looking at. Austin + San Antonio do very well for metal shows, the blues and jazz there is incredible, the people are all nice. Plus, it's one fine learning institution.

I know she was in attendance at Agalloch's show here in SF and she didn't play with them, but I was thinking that'd be awesome.
