Rotten Sound -- Tempe, AZ -- February 7th, 2011

This was at the Clubhouse in Tempe as part of the Finnish Metal Tour 2. I'm not familiar enough with the other bands to post their setlists, but I know all three have been posted elsewhere. I only caught about a song and a half from Barren Earth, but I liked them enough that I'd check them out again. Ensiferum was a little too happy sounding for me. Finntroll was cool, way better than Ensiferum at least, just not really my thing. The main reason I was there was to see the current kings of grind, the mighty Rotten Sound! they played between Barren earth and Ensiferum. This was my fifth time seeing them and first time with their new bassist. Quite possibly the most animated I've ever seen them onstage. My only minor complaint about their set was that the sound was a bit muddy and the vocals and snare drum were pretty low in the mix.

I think there may have been one more song between "Power" and "Blind," but I could be mistaken. Also, I'm fairly certain their setlist said "Decay" after "Targets," but they did not play it. Cool to hear alot of songs from the upcoming album.

uh, they played 20 songs during the finnish metal tour? I find that hard to believe

It's Rotten Sound, their songs are around a minute long.

that's kinda what I was thinking but I didn't wanna bother looking it up, I assume they're grindcore?

Yep you bet, these guys are pure grind!!! Freaking awesome group too, everything they touch is gold.

Sucks that there's no Obey but I'm glad they are playing The Kill.

The very second I saw a post titled "Rotten Sound" rather than "Finntroll" or "Ensiferum" in Tempe, I knew who fucking posted it, haha. Damn, I would have killed to be at that show. Unfortunately, all of my finances are currently reserved for the Death Angel show next weekend.

I was wondering where you were, I was expecting to see you there! I might try to make it to that Death Angel show, not sure yet. Not really too into anyone they're playing with, plus I'm going to Scion Fest in March and they're playing that too.

Yeah, I'm with you on the bands that are opening for Death Angel. I've heard some of their stuff and I don't necessarily think they're bad, but something about the idea of bands that haven't been around for 10 years playing straight-up thrash metal just doesn't click with me.
