Metal Blog

I am thinking of starting my own metal blog. Would you visit it if I did this? If so what else would you like to see talked about besides music?

Nothing. Blogs which try to tackle multiple things don't do any of them well. Better to get the one thing spot on.

It's absolutely true if you want to do it to any kind of semi-professional level. If one minute you're talking about sports and the next you're talking about heavy metal it is VERY difficult for readers to believe you're any kind of authority on either. People need to know what you're for. Are you a voice on metal, or a voice on football, or videos games, or movies?

If you diversify too much they'll just go somewhere where they can get specialist information on each thing they're interested in.

Plus, there just isn't the space or time to do all of them to the best standards and have any relevance in each field. Not unless you're something like a major newspaper/website etc. who has teams of people focusing on each thing. And they never get it right either. How many great movies come out that are never reviewed in the newspapers because they've only got X amount of column space to devote to movies and they need to focus on the blockbusters to sell copies? Obviously column space isn't an issue on the web, but time is. And if you were to have the time to post all of the things on each subject that are needed to present the necessary level of detail and be suitably expansive, you'll end up posting far too much for anyone to read. They'll fail to find a focus to the site and go somewhere else.

That obviously doesn't for a second mean you can't write about different things, but do them in different places. DethMaiden writes about metal and movies, and does both very well. But he does them in different places, where they're relevant (plus a bit of commercial selling out ). I do too, to a more limited extent at present. Mixing them would largely damage the credibility of both.

But as to the original question, which I blatantly failed to answer in my first post, yes WolverineKills, I think there would be a lot of value in you doing a metal blog.

On a separate note, I've read your blog before, and your football reports are your strongest element, I think. They need a little more formatting to divide up the narrative a touch, but they're even readable and interesting to me, and I hate your football

Your music posts are also good, but they feel like out-of-place sidebars amongst the football commentary, and perhaps could do with a more sutiable home.

Thanks, I appreciate that. You do make a very good point, people do llke to read about 1 thing and jumping around isn't the best tactic. I write about all those things because I am extremely passionate about all 3. When I get further along in school and try to pursue a career in writing, I will decide which specific topic I want to write about full time. Thank you for the feed back

I am starting off small and slow. This is not a news website ala Blabbermouth. It is a blog that will have a few posts added each day. I hope you will add this to your favorites and check it out each afternoon/night.
