California Metalfest V

Last year's festival was half deathcore, but this year...

This is what After the Burial just posted on Facebook.

The festival is really a shadow of its former self. Here's the lineup from two years ago. It should be noted that Arsis dropped off and was replaced by Repulsion. Also, Gravehill was one of the opening bands.

I was at that show. One of our good friends works at a metal store and got a bunch of free promotional tickets and took us all. Great night. Carcass delivered big time(That's the only reason we all went. We didn't even really check out any of the bands except for Toxic Holocaust and White chapell. Other then that, we where just chatting it up with all types of chill cats outside the venue untill Exodus and Carcass came out). This years looks pretty awful.

If I lived in Cali I would totally go to this. Human Abstract, After the Burial, Darkest Hour, and As I Lay Dying would be great to see.

What is with Metalheads who get all uppity and pretentious because they can't stand newer bands? I love death metal SO much; my favorite kind of metal. But there are really great new bands out there. I don't know, it just feels like most people posting here are completely opposed to accepting them rather than sticking to their favorites. I can understand that yeah, Carcass and Suffocation are perhaps better bands than the ones billed, but totally dismissing this lineup seems a little arrogant to me.

(Note: I did not say ANYTHING about Suicide Silence or deathcore in general)

It's pretty obvious that this "metalfest" is just a "slap together several tours on one date," so it's kind of luck of the draw.

I'm open to all the newer bands and I really don't mind there being a big -core festival. I actually just saw Winds of Plague and After the Burial at the December Decimation festival. The thing that bothers me is just how this festival has changed so much. I might go this year, but I'm just saying, Carcass was a much more enticing headliner to me. But I really can't complain much, since we have Scion Rock Fest this year!
