manky's 2010 review thread!
wewt :3
I'll be doing a best-of list for albums, EP's/Split's/Demo's, concerts and other things, but let's start off with an easy one: BEST COMPILATION ![]() This Comp Kills Fascists Vol. 2 Put together by Scott Hull of Pig Destroyer fame, This Comp Kills Fascists Vol. 2 is another entry into the brilliant compilation series with some of the best grindcore, powerviolence, fastcore, etc. that you'll find today. This comp has 74 (Yes, 74) tracks from 19 bands, including legends like Lack Of Interest and Crom, but the newbies shine through as well, like Idiots Parade and Owen Heart. Don't listen to this comp while driving, you'll get a speeding ticket.

SONG OF THE YEAR
![]() Rotting Christ - Orders From The Dead (Diamanda Galas cover) A hauntingly amazing masterpiece featuring the vocals or Greek avant-garde master Diamanda Galas herself, Orders From The Dead transcends metal and music and is more akin to a story told around a fire thousands of years ago to Greek soldiers on the battlefield. It's fantastic. Runner's up: Lair Of The Minotaur - Let's Kill These Motherfuckers Ghost - Ritual

TOP CONCERTS OF DA YEAR
HONORABLE MENTION: ![]() Black Cobra w/ Phobia, Howl Imagine my surprise when I went to a grindcore show only to find one of the heaviest bands in existence. Even better: Black Cobra is just a two-piece! Phobia grinded minds and Howl was great, but nothing could compare that night. Consider me a new fan. Original review here ---- 10. ![]() Weedeater w/ Black Tusk, The Gates Of Slumber One of the heaviest shows I've ever experienced. Dixie is seriously a fucking madman live and I'm sure having a bottle of cough syrup to drink from helped things! Highlights: God Luck and Good Speed, Wizard Fight Original review here ----- 9. ![]() Envy w/ Trash Talk, Touche Amore, And So I Watch You From Afar Trash Talk had one of the craziest pits I've ever seen, but Touche Amore was who I came to see, ASIWYFA surprised, and Envy floored me. Absolutely stunning, emotional, and brilliant. Highlights: Touche Amore - Honest Sleep; Envy - Rain Clouds Running In A Holy Night Original review here ---- 8. ![]() Coalesce w/ Black Breath, Touche Amore, Canyons Converge canceling was the best thing to happen to this concert. I just can't fathom any band that could follow up a brilliant act like Coalesce. The vocalist collapsed from screaming multiple times. Heart. Touche Amore was great and Black Breath was excellent. Highlights: The Comedian In Question, You Can't Kill Us All, Wild Ox Moan Original review here --- 7. ![]() Boris w/ Russian Circles, The Life and Times One of my favorite bands. This time around completely obliterated the first time I saw them. Aside from one big technical hiccup near the end of the set, it was the perfect concert. Michio Kurihara is God. Russian Circles is one of only two all instrumental bands that don't bore me out my mind. Highlights: Korosu, 1970, Rainbow Original review here ---- 6. ![]() Cannibal Corpse w/ 1349, Skeletonwitch, Lecherous Nocturne It's not often that I'm absolutely stoked for every band on a bill, but this tour was a dream come true. Best set I've seen from Cannibal Corpse, Skeletonwitch was as vicious as ever, and 1349 successfully converted many metalheads into satanists. Brutal. Highlights: Cannibal Corpse - I Will Kill You, Death Walking Terror, Devoured By Vermind; Skeletonwitch - Within My Blood, Crushed Beyond Dust, Beyond The Permafrost; 1349 - Sculptor Of Flesh Original review here Pt. 2 soon!

D'oh! I forgot about them. Okay, one of the only 2 metal bands that don't bore me completely! The other is Karma To Burn.
