The Architects are one of the worst live bands I have ever seen. All their songs sound exactly the same and they have zero stage presence.

On that note here are my picks for 10 best performances of the year.

10.The Dillinger Escape Plan(7/13)
This was my first time seeing Dillinger and everything I had imagined and then some. They are the single most energetic live band I have ever seen. They didn't pull any crazy shit like hanging from the ceiling or breathing fire, but their whirlwind energy and precision made this is one hell of a performance.

9.Suffocation(10/15)
I honestly don't think I will be able to use the word brutal to describe a performance ever again. Suffocation is the heaviest live band I have ever seen. Frank Mullen sounded fantastic and he is a really funny dude.

8.Skeletonwitch(4/24)
This was my first time seeing Skeletonwitch and I heard a ton of hype about their shows and they lived up to it. They teared through a half-hour set with pretty much no breaks. Near-perfect performance and the best of the day at the excellent New England Metal and Hardcore Festival.

7.Hatebreed(7/27)
Jamey Jasta is one of the best frontmen in all of metal. This was my 2nd time seeing them and they were just as good the first time. Hatebreed's shows are intense and whole hell of a lot of fun.

6.Andrew W.K(7/13)
Prior to seeing Andrew W.K, I knew he was going to be fun, but I didn't imagine having that much fun. The entire crowd was having a blast and Andrew W.K is a constant ball of energy and an amazing performer.

5.As I Lay Dying(7/20)
As I Lay Dying is such a force to be reckoned with live. Their energy is through the roof and their songs just sound better live.

4.Korn(7/27)
Korn was one of the bands that got me into metal it was surreal feeling seeing them live. Jonathan Davis sounded awesome and the whole band played tight. I heard a lot of conflicting reports on their live shows, but I thought were fantastic.

3.Mastodon(9/22)
Hands down the best performance I have ever seen Mastodon play. After being dissapointed the first 2 times I saw Mastodon, they impressed me on thier headliner in May 09. This time out, they were fucking amazing. Brent was spot on (he had been the weak link the first 2 times I saw them) and I got chills during their set. The setlist was awesome and I never thought I would hear "Naked Burn" live, that was a pleasant surprise, as was "Blood and Thunder" as the closer.

2.Alice In Chains(9/22)
This was another band I had been dying to see live. Alice In Chains is one of my favorite bands of all time and they put on a wonderful show. Will DuVall sounded great. At times he sounded exactly like Layne Staley. Anybody who says Alice In Chains sucks with DuVall is crazy, he is a great replacement for Layne and seeing them live proves that point even further.

1.(tie) Between The Buried and Me(1/28)/Rob Zombie(7/27)
I really couldn't pick between the two. BTBAM's headlining set was awe-inspiring. One of the best performances I have ever seen in my entire in my life. Ditto for Zombie, he is such a spectacular showman and his theatrics are pretty much unmatched. He showed his hometown crowd why is he one of the best live acts on the planet.

Honorable Mentions:
The Faceless(10/15)
Amon Amarth(4/24)
3 Inches Of Blood(7/27)
The Red Chord(7/31)
Killswitch Engage(2/4)

When I saw Suffocation back in January, Frank talked about loading up on guns and ammo for the apocalypse, how he wanted to party and smoke weed with aliens, as well as some other stuff I don't remember. Probably the funniest thing he said though was probably "Ya know what really fucking sucks? Having a 17 year old daughter. It makes me wanna tear my fucking face off." Goddamn, I wanna see them again so bad.

That's really funny. The funniest thing Frank talked about was how he wouldn't have a sex with a robot.

Here he went on a huge rant about the apocalypse and how when it's coming "BECAUSE IT'S COMING" everybody's going to be looking for canned goods. He paused for a moment and then yelled

"HANDS OFF OF MY FUCKING CANNED GOODS. THESE ARE MY CANNED GOODS."

I laughed so fucking hard.
