Good call on Heathen. It's a great cd and deserves accolades. Now if it can just crack my Top 10...

Speaking of Top 10, I already know Deftones has a lock on my Top spot and some people on here won't even listen to the cd because it's Deftones and that's cool. I just want to point out that of the 10 albums I predict will finish in our Top 10, 5 of the worst songs (on decent albums) I heard all year reside on those albums. Not trying to bash anyone's picks, just pointing out what I heard and that every single song on the new Deftones cd are worlds better than every one of these songs to me. I'll start with the 3 A's:

Alcest - Solar Song - if someone came to you and said check out this great metal band and played that song for you, what would you think? This cd has a Crimson/Floyd feel to it but Top 10 of 2010? I just don't get it...

Agalloch - Ghosts of Midwinter Fires - U2 with shitty vocals? 5:00-6:00 is pretty cool. Can I get those other 8 min of my life back please? hahaha There are 20 incredible minutes on this cd but 20 min don't make a Top 10 cd to me. Needs more Into the Painted Grey type songs

Avantasia - Black Wings - When these guys are at their best, they're really good. These guys have talent but this song is terrible...

Iron Maiden - The Man Who Would Be King - The worst vocally structured song I heard all year... with some of the dumbest lyrics ever penned. Had they left this song completely off the cd, it might make my Top 10. I've never heard vocals forced into music like that before and it just ruins the song for me. The music actually has its moments...

And lastly...

Blind Guardian - Curse My Name - Um, has anyone seen or heard Swashbuckle? This should seriously be a Swashbuckle song. I can't take this cd seriously with this song on it. I consider myself very open minded musically but this song belongs in a Pirate Porn movie before it belongs on a Top 10 Metal Setlist album choice.

That being said there are some great songs on this cd and several of the others I covered but those 5 songs are so bad that there is no way I could even put Heathen behind any of them on my Top 10. I rate albums as a work of art, not just a few songs painted around filler.

Once again, just making a point. I'm sure people on here hate Fear Factory and some of my other picks and that's cool. That's what makes the year end tally so interesting. I'm hoping to discover some more gems like Ihsahn & Shining and rooting for both to creep into the Top 10...

Black Wings is my least favorite song on The Wicked Symphony.

So I honestly don't understand the conclusion on this "rule." You guys are saying that if an album came out this year in Europe or Japan, it can be included despite the fact it hasn't been released in the states yet, yet you guys insist on counting the Heathen album that came out in 2009.

I know that none of you care anymore at this point, but this is fucking retarded. If an album was originally released anywhere in 2009, it can't go on a 2010 list, even if it came out in the US in 2010. I'm trying to explain the logic behind my decision here, but every time I do, it sounds like I'm taking to a bunch of retarded 2nd graders. You guys can't just change the rules when it fits you personally.

Normally they don't. I think this time it's because it only came out in Japan in 2009, so no one here will have had any opportunity to hear it before 2010. Normally the issue is it's been released in Europe before the US, but Heathen wasn't even out here until 2010 either.

I think they are mostly talking about making an exception for the Heathen CD because it was released at the very end of 2009 in Japan only. It was released everywhere else in 2010. So there is almost no way anyone could have heard it, let alone voted for it in 2009. We should be allowed to vote for it in 2010. Otherwise, what you are saying has been the rule in previous years.

Loganarchy's not wrong, but this happens every year. People simultaneously want to count stuff that isn't out yet in the States and stuff that wasn't out yet in the States in 2009.

Yep, and normally I'd say stick to the rules. But this one seems OK to me.

Nokturnal Mortum wasn't out in Europe until December 30th, 2009. I don't see how you can't include that in a 2010 poll.
