Entirely possible, yes. You've still got to have a decent production base anyway. The loudness problem doesn't completely destroy the original. A great production will simply sound shit. A shit production will sound even worse.

But yes, the differences between the competant producers will be completely lost. A Sneap produced album that's been digitally fucked with after could quite easily end up sound just like a Bob Rock produced one after the same treatment.
