Best metal guitar tone evar?

I'm talking about pure tone. Not skill or style (except where it is a factor in the actual tone). I know this is a totally objective (?), but I don't think it has been asked on this site yet. We could do nominations and a poll or just do it end-of-year album list style. Or just discuss, I don't give a fuck breh.

Drum and bass also welcome, but if you wanna talk about vocals, we've been through it before so keep it out of here.

With a gun to my head I'm saying Ride the Lightning.

I'd have to really think about this to just pick one, but the first that comes to mind is Nile's newest album. It sounds like a chainsaw cutting of a helpless child's arms.

The best tone I can think of right now is John Petrucci's live tone. Insanely heavy.

Priest's modern guitar sound is one of my favorites as well.

Oh, and the guitars on Heathen's new record sound awesome as well.

I'm a sucker for that buzzsaw guitar tone from bands like Dismember, Entombed, Bloodbath, etc.

Me too.

But I'm going for The Number of the Beast. It taught twelve-year-old me, a longtime casual "hard rock" listener, what it meant to truly be not hard rock but heavy metal. Listen to the opening riff to 22 Acacia Avenue and try to disagree.

The Number of the Beast has an excellent, excellent guitar tone. Certainly the best Maiden's ever had. Yet it's not quite as heavy as RTL IMO.
